Never liked the Labour attitude,it was always arrogant, and looked down on others or that is the way I felt it.
Jim Arnott's comment, June 13, 2013 4:51 AM
Peter you have this one slightly wrong. Wilson can't be a has-been because to be a has-been you have to have been somebody. The only thing Wilson ever was was a nonentity and a good one at that.
Peter A Bell's comment, June 13, 2013 5:08 AM
I stand corrected, Jim.

When Up is Down then Down must be Up

I happened to be in Edinburgh the day Nigel Farage was heckled in and huckled out of a High Street pub. Unfortunately I was too late in arriving. I would have loved to have seen the three Auld Reekie cabbies who in turn refused his fare as he tried to escape. In the end a Black Mariah from the newly formed Police Scotland vanned him away from his political “miscalculation”. I will not dignify the UKIP leader’s comments by quoting them but it was interesting to see how the Scottish media tried to spin the story in the direction of “a nationalist mob” and they indeed did give Mr Farage screeds of coverage which was an opportunity he gladly took even though he hung up on BBC Radio Scotland and no-one believed a word.

Peter A Bell's curator insight, May 30, 2013 4:44 AM

Arithmetic has never been the anti-independence campaign's strong suit. And simple logic is, sadly, an early casualty of the kind of muddled thinking that characterises a campaign based on smears and scaremongering rather than any rational assessment of the facts.

The glaringly obvious fact that so sadly eludes British Labour's Ken Macintosh and his Tory allies is that the savings referred to in the Yes Scotland video need only offset NEW costs arising from Scotland resuming its status as an independent nation. Whatever the current cost of running the tax system may be, for example, we are already paying a proportionate share of that cost in full.

And even if there are one-off costs that exceed the £300 million savings identified in the Yes Scotland video, this is, by definition, one-time-only expenditure while the savings are annual. We save £300 million EVERY year. So, even if those initial start-up costs were as much as £1 billion, which I don't think anybody is seriously suggesting, the cost would be recovered in only three years. And this is before we even start to consider the undoubted benefits of bringing control of Scotland's economy back where it belongs.

I was under the impression that the "potential" of North Sea resources had already been examined and found to be inadequate for the purposes of an independent Scotland. Could it be that the British establishment is once again contradicting itself and exposing it own lies?
