Buoyancy Control!

Buoyancy Control! | All about water, the oceans, environmental issues | Scoop.it

Q: My buoyancy used to be perfect, but not anymore. I weigh as much as I used to and still wear the same wetsuit and amount of weight as before. What's changed?

Most likely it's your wetsuit. Over time, neoprene loses buoyancy because some of the cells collapse or fill with water. Frequent use—or abuse by storing your weight belt on top of it—will accelerate the process, but all wetsuits become less buoyant as they are used.

Tips on how to help our OCEAN and marine life stay healthy

Tips on how to help our OCEAN and marine life stay healthy | All about water, the oceans, environmental issues | Scoop.it
This is a healthy turtle... we want ALL TURTLES of the world to look like this one so here's a few tips on how to help our OCEAN and marine life stay healthy.
 1. Eat a GMO FREE diet! What you put in your body will eventually go down a drain and in many places not all raw sewage is treated so HELP by eating chemical FREE FOODS. 2. Say No to ROUND UP! ... Get out there and pull your weeds by hand, don't be lazy. ROUND UP kills the reef and its killing us too. STOP USING IT. 3. BLEACH and household cleaning products should ALL BE NATURAL. No more comet, ajax, bleach and unnatural chemical products. They should NEVER be  used at home or at the office, period! 4. Do NOT dispose of drugs and medicine in your TOILET. It all ends up in the sea. 5. Products for personal hygiene such as shampoo, lotions, creams, soaps should all be NATURAL and ORGANIC. No more poison in the sea please! 6. Help ACTIVATE your community. Educate everyone you meet and talk about our problems, they will NOT go away unless we do something about it.
Kathy Dowsett's insight:

Thanks to Oceqn Defenders for this advice.

Diver Situation!

Diver Situation! | All about water, the oceans, environmental issues | Scoop.it

Chantelle Taylor-NewmanThe Diver MedicIncident Discussion: A diver conducted a 35 min dive to a depth of 10m.  2 hours 14 min later he dived to 22m.  Whilst preparing for this second dive he was slightly seasick but felt well enough to continue.  During the dive he vomited again but did not alert his two buddies.  The dive leader noticed that the sick diver seemed uncomfortable but he did not indicate any problem.  After 25 min they started their ascent up a shotline.  At 6m they stopped to complete a 3 min stop.  At this point the diver vomited again and his regulator became blocked.  One of his buddies handed him his octopus regulator which he took.  The diver did not seem to be breathing correctly so the dive leader, fearing that he might lose consciousness, brought him to the surface in a rapid buoyant ascent.  The third diver made a normal ascent.  At the surface the dive leader signalled for the boat to recover them.  Once in the boat the sick diver was placed on oxygen but he continued to vomit.  The Coastguard was alerted and the two divers were airlifted to a recompression facility.  The dive leader was discharged after 3 hours and the sick diver was discharged the following day.  Neither experienced any other symptoms.

Thanks Chantelle!

Kathy Dowsett's insight:

This picture does not represent the situation above---just a clip art picture of a diver.
