Hi everyone ... I live in the UK and last night millions of people across the land tuned in to the most popular family prime time show on British television .... The X Factor... Produced in its entirety by Music/tv mogul Simon Cowell.
Bearing in mind the influence this thoroughly nice guy has on the younger generations of today, imagine my horror when at the end of the show there was a quick preview of next week's talent selection process at the judges' houses dotted around the world... And one of them glorified a Dolphinarium with the contestants in a pool somewhere, be ...

The High Cost of a Littered Beach | All about water, the oceans, environmental issues | Scoop.it
In the U.S., where over half of us live along the coast and more than 78 percent of our overseas trade by volume comes and goes along our marine highways, the health of our coasts is intricately connected to the health of our nation's economy. The National Ocean Service (NOS) translates science, tools, and services into action, to address threats to coastal areas such as climate change, population growth, port congestion, and contaminants in the environment, all working towards healthy coasts and healthy economies.

Nearly 600 Years of Tree Rings Show Altered Ocean Habitat

Nearly 600 Years of Tree Rings Show Altered Ocean Habitat | All about water, the oceans, environmental issues | Scoop.it

Ocean currents that deliver important nutrients to shallow, coastal waters have become weaker and more variable over the last half-century, which could affect fish and other marine animals that nourish themselves in these nutrient-rich waters, according to a new study.

Data records spanning almost 600 years have shown that the strength of coastal upwelling off the west coast of North America has become more variable since 1950. Researchers pieced together this long-term look at ocean trends from an unlikely source: tree rings.

What's Not Trying to Kill California Sea Otters?

What's Not Trying to Kill California Sea Otters? | All about water, the oceans, environmental issues | Scoop.it

Once upon a time, tens of thousands of sea otters floated and swam off California's coast. But the fur trade in the 18th and 19th centuries took care of that, nearly wiping out the subspecies, and many people believed that it had gone extinct. But all of that changed in 1938 when the last raft—or group—of around 50 sea otters were found alive and well near the Bixby Canyon Bridge in Big Sur.

The 20-Year-Old Who Plans to Remove All Plastic from the Ocean

Boyan Slat is a an inspiring young man on a big mission, to remove all plastic from the ocean, and he has no plans of slowing down until his mission is complete.

No, he’s not some superhuman 20-year-old wunderkind who magically found a potential fix to a major Global Crisis. He’s simply a

EL VEINTEAÑERO QUE DECIDE QUITAR TODO EL PLÁSTICO DEL OCÉANO

Noticia:
