NBC Shark Hunters Cancelled!

NBC Shark Hunters Cancelled! | All about water, the oceans, environmental issues | Scoop.it
As it happens, a year ago today a petition was started to ask NBC to stop airing and cancel Shark Hunters. Well today I can tell you that because of you, I can confirm our efforts have been rewarded. Over the last few weeks I have been trying to confirm the cancellation and now two of the shark fishing competitions that were featured have confirmed cancellation as well as one of the boat captains from last season.

NBC of course refuse to comment and seem rather annoyed at the constant enquiries. That said there is nothing on NBC’s schedule and there is nothing building as far as PR hype so I am assuming based on the three confirmations and NBC’s silence that the awful show “Shark Hunters” has been CANCELLED! Hooray!!!!!!!!

Honestly I think the decision was taken quite a while back but I had to keep the petition up and the focus to make sure we did not end up declaring victory too early, only for NBC to do a U Turn!

The reality is sharks are still viewed as big and scary and because of that they will generate ratings, for example Shark Week on the Discovery Channel last week! (If you want some great alternatives to shark week check out this recent blog article I wrote http://goo.gl/6OQUbM)

At the end of the day we would never have got NBC to shut down production without the help and signature of each and every one of you. You are the reason the advertisers pulled out (thank you TripAdvisor, Clorox/Kingsford Charcoal, Allstate, Citrix), that NBC had to go on the defense and why we made season 3 a non-starter for commercial reasons.

That said we won a battle today but certainly not the war. The war on sharks is occurring every day. There are many fantastic organizations trying to stop this war and together just like we did here we can help win that war by winning each battle. A few points to winning the war:

• Take 30 seconds follow/support the groups at the end of this message.
• Take 5 minutes to have a conversation with someone on the value of sharks, try and educate just one person on the fact, no sharks, no ocean, no us.
• Do not support businesses that support the destruction of sharks
• Rally against the Shark Tournaments that are still occurring ☹

Thank you to many groups who rallied behind this petition including, The Dodo (Melissa) (https://www.thedodo.com/), Blue Planet Society (John) (http://blueplanetsociety.blogspot.co.uk/), Fin Free (http://fin-free.com/) and finally, thank you to www.Change.org for providing this platform and for actively supporting this petition.

I am so grateful to all of you, thank you for your support, thank you for your tweets, thank you for your emails of support. This victory is yours.

Humbled,

Andrew J Mills aka #cancelsharkhunters
