This website is interactive with the user allowing students to click and move through the process of protein synthesis (transcription and translation).  Students can use the information they have learned in order to practice the process online.  The activity places styudents inside of a cell allowing them to control the cell's activity and transcription/translation of the DNA code in order to create a protein for the body.

This is a great site to use as a resource because it is a location that allows collaboration of all things science.  Specifically for this site, you read information about how genetic information is passed on to dividing cells, what are the steps in getting to the genetc information, what the function of ribosomes is, and how the whole process will result in a new protein.  These pictures are great as well and give a more in-depth view of protein synthesis.

Protein Synthesis

Every protein molecule of an organism is synthesized by that organism in a prescribed process. This activity helps students understand the fundamental life process of making protein.

This website requires you to click next to move on.  You can move at your own pace through the tutorial and allows students to really stop and absorb the content.  It will really help you understand the process of making a protein. The animations are not as realistic as the other sites, however, it really breaks down the content in a way that is easy to understand and can be followed easily.

The best part about this site is the instructional video.  It is approximately 2 minutes and accurately and explicitly describes protein synthesis while the animation gives you a better visual as to what the narration is referring to.  There is also a transcript at the bottom for those who want to read along.This video has state of the art quality that really delves into the inner workings of protein synthesis allowing for a real understanding of how the process works.

Transcribe and Translate a Gene

This website is great for those who like an interactive way to practice transcription and translation.  The site walks you through what it wants you to do.  You cannot move along unless you are correct, so it checks your progress as you work.  It is extremely accurate and again provides a great visual for the process. Students are able to see how a gene is processed in order to create a protein and then are able to create one on their own.
