Barbara Zecchi was invited to give a talk on Pedro Almodóvar at the interdisciplinary Research Project “Género, Estética y Cultura Audiovisual” (GECA). The project, directed by Prof. Francisco Zurián (Universidad Complutense) fosters non-discriminatory policies in the university, in film and in society at large. The 4th edition of the workshop was dedicated to "Nuevas Masculinidades".

 

Prof. Zecchi's «Almodóvar: de lo óptico a lo háptico») addessed  the evolution of Almodóvar  cinematic strategies from a gaze-centered aesthetics to a new focus on haptic images.

On Oct. 18, at 4:00 PM in Herter 209,  Prof. Eduardo González (Johns Hopkins University) will give the talk: “All about my sex, all about mother, my race, my skin and yours, ALL”. At 2:00, in Herter 207, we will screen Almodóvar's movie _La piel que habito_

 

Prof. González joined the Hopkins faculty in 1981 and is the author of five books _Carpentier, el tiempo del hombre_ (1978), _La persona y el relato_ (1985), _The Monstered Self_ (1992), _Cuba and the Tempest _(2006) and _Cuba and the Fall: Christian Text and Queer Narrative_ (2010). Currently he is working on two new book projects: _Pedro Almodóvar Measure for Measure_ and _The Chimerical South_.

 

The event, organized by Prof. Regina Galasso (Comp Lit) and Prof. Barbara Zecchi (SpanPort) is cosponsored by the Program of Spanish and Portuguese, the Program of Comparative Literature, and the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

 

The talk is in English. The movie is in Spanish with English subtitles.
