KIMBERLEY Ultramarathon organisers failed to act after they were warned there was a fire risk to competitors. Documents reveal the alarm was raised two hours before competitors in the race were trapped and seriously burned in a WA bushfire. A damning fire investigation report, obtained under Freedom of Information laws, also reveals race officials were aware of the fire at least two days before the 100km endurance event was held, because the blaze had crossed on to the scheduled course and destroyed plastic boundary markers.
