Here is a blog post with tips along with several videos where Tim Hartman shares his insights and tips on better storytelling.

I've poked around and so far so good. So I think you will benefit from these pieces. Especially if you are looking for online help with your business stories.

Let me know if you like these and if they are of value to you!

And thanks to fellow curator   and his curation Digital Storytelling for finding and sharing this.

Pitching your ideas to investors is telling a story. You need to get the attention and turn some heads. Hartman's tips are very useful, take a lookk and see what's in it for you. Standing up in front of a panel of investors, or a sitting at a boardroom table with a number of decision makers can be intimidatiing.

Just Story It - Scoops

Just Story It - Scoops | Ultimate Job search | Scoop.it

Here are the best articles from across the web that I can find on using stories and storytelling in business.

I've chosen them because they actually make a contribution to our knowledge and wisdom about stories, show us how to apply stories to growing our businesses, or give valuable how-to tips.

I weed out all the junk. And besides, who needs another post in why storytelling is important?? Where's the beef?? We want the meat!

I've written reviews of each article to share what I like best, what you can get from reading the article, or what may be missing in the article.

How To Find A Topic: Click on the Filter tab above, and type in a keyword. All the articles with that keyword will appear.

I may occassionally review an article that I think is problematic as a way to educate us all, although most I will simply pass over.  If you wonder if I've seen an article that is not included here, send me a message and I'll respond.

After doing biz story work for over a decade (and with a PhD in Folklore) I hope you find many great insights and tips here. Many thanks for visiting and enjoy the articles!

And I hope you will also visit my website for more tips and tools, & take the free Story IQ assessment so you can see how well developed your storytelling skills and knowledge is: http://www.juststoryit.com/storyiq  ;

Like this quote.  "Learning theory is an attempt to describe how people learn." It is complex because it is emergent and defies being reduced to simple components, but we must keep trying to understand it.  "The journey is the destinaton" as an Eastern philospher once said.

Alan Ovens's comment, January 17, 2013 2:21 AM
Great diagram. We just need to always keep in mind that theories of learning are not theories of teaching. Always "mind the gap" as a voice once said to me as I sat on a train in London.

Teaching Kids to Curate Content Collections [ACTIVITY] - The Tempered Radical

Teaching Kids to Curate Content Collections [ACTIVITY] - The Tempered Radical | Ultimate Job search | Scoop.it

While there are a ton of essential skills that today's students need in order to succeed in tomorrow's world, learning to efficiently manage -- and to evaluate the reliability of -- the information that they stumble across online HAS to land somewhere near the top of the "Muy Importante" list.

Which is why I had a few of my students experimenting with Scoop.it this week:
..
Specifically, they put together this collection of resources spotlighting the range of perspectives people have on New York City's decision to ban the sale of sugary drinks in containers larger than 16 ounces.

Designed to give users the chance to create curated collections of resources on topics that they are interested in, Scoop.it is a wicked mashup of digital goodness - part feed reader, part blogging tool, and part social bookmarking service.
...
Basically, Scoop.it can become a one-stop shop for (1). teaching kids to search, (2). giving kids chances to manage information, to evaluate sources and to build collections and (3). allowing kids to easily publish content on topics that they care about.

Have We Lost The Art Of Storytelling In Marketing?

Have We Lost The Art Of Storytelling In Marketing? | Ultimate Job search | Scoop.it

"As the buzz about content marketing, social media and all things digital continues to rise, one of the catch phrases that gets a lot of attention is storytelling in marketing. We afford it incredible lip service but do we actually practice it?"

Hmmmm -- good question. Here the author, Drew McLellan asks if in previous decades business was better at storytelling in its marketing and advertising.

Makes you think. Drew includes 3 videos to make his point. The first is a 1980s video from Dunkin Donuts as an example of effective storytelling. Well -- it is definitely not storytelling but instead an add that is all features and benefits.

The other two advertising videos however, are great examples from the past of really good stories.

I don't know if our biz storytelling is not as good these days as in previous decades. But I do like the questions Drew poses at the end of the post to help us decide.

What do you think? Is our biz storytelling better or worse than before?

Flipping This Class: A Journey from Professor to Popularizer

Flipping This Class: A Journey from Professor to Popularizer | Ultimate Job search | Scoop.it
I was an unusual little girl. Since I was four, I wanted to be a scientist. I got the idea from a television show called 3-2-1 Contact.

I learned a lot in creating these videos during my transformation from professor to popularizer. You see, in a classroom, we have a captive audience. We can give a boring lecture and the students are not going anywhere. However, YouTube videos must compete for a student's attention. They are probably media-multitasking (i.e. updating their Facebook status and tweeting at the same time), so you've got to make the videos compelling.
