Companies urged to look East to boost exports - Business Weekly

Companies urged to look East to boost exports - Business Weekly | UK Trade & Investment media coverage | Scoop.it
A significant year-on-year fall in exports from the region prompted UKTI CEO Dominic Jermey to urge a new approach. He met leading companies and organisations on a fact-finding visit to Cambridge when he said companies needed to increase exports if they wanted to become ‘more robust, more profitable and more innovative’. He argued that ‘core strengths’ in areas such as biotechnology and ICT, plus a world-leading university, gave Cambridge a clear lead in an international marketplace, but that recent export performance in the region could be improved.
UKTI's insight:

Dominic Jermey said: “Business in the East of England suffers really tough competition, especially from London and a dependence on trade with a recession-hit Europe has stagnated exports further.

“In response we are encouraging businesses to look further afield in their export strategy, not only to China (with £7.5 million export support just pledged in the Budget) but also to Asia and the Middle East.”
