UDL in the Classroom - Reaching All Students with Technology - Classroom 2.0

UDL in the Classroom - Reaching All Students with Technology - Classroom 2.0 | UDL & ICT in education | Scoop.it

Lisa Parisi will be presenting on UDL in the Classroom at the 2012 Social Learning Summit.  Here is a description of the presentation that will be filled with great strategies in using social media in a UDL classroom.

Session Description: We, as educators, are faced with many different challenges. We have a large amount of curriculum to cover, tests our students must do well on, and a public who believes one size fits all works in the classroom. Our students are getting burned out quickly. And one size fits all does not take into account the learning disabled child, the ADHD child, the hearing impaired child, the bored child, the struggling reader, the math phobic child, the artistic child, the leader, the follower, or any other "out of the norm" student (whatever that might be). Web 2.0 tools afford us the opportunity to help all students meet the curricular requirements, demonstrate knowledge, learn, and enjoy school. Learn how to use collaborative tools such as Google docs, presentation tools like Glogster, and research tools such as Discovery Streaming to enliven your classroom. Today, there is no excuse for not reaching all children. Come hear how easy it is."

Personalize Learning: Toolkit

Personalize Learning: Toolkit | UDL & ICT in education | Scoop.it

How do you personalize learning? First you need to know what personalized learning is. Here is a new site that provides resources, research, models, examples, and stories. This page provides a toolkit that can help your organization begin personalizing learning to meet the needs of all learners. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) provides the framework in personalizing learning for all learners. UDL also guides the design of the Personal Learner Profile[TM]. It provides the UDL lens to select the appropriate tools for the Personal Learning Backpack[TM] that helps them access information, engage content, and express what they know. UDL guides how Personalized Learning meets the Common Core.

Writing Apps – Supports for Students with LD

Writing Apps – Supports for Students with LD  | UDL & ICT in education | Scoop.it

Writing is considered one of the most difficult literacy tasks. Many students with learning disabilities struggle with the process of writing as well as the mechanical componets of the writing task. Technology can provide support to the mechanical demands of the writing process and is often a welcome tool to students. When asked about AT supports for writing there are many, however some of the standard AT tools of mechanical writing are voice recognition, use of text to speech, word prediction and adaptive or customized writing environments. Although there are others (especially those with text to speech) here are some apps that show good reviews and provide basic features of the standard AT tools for writing. At the present, phonetic word prediction does not appear to be present in writing apps (may be found in more advanced text-based AAC apps such as Predictably).
