Personalize Learning: Toolkit

Personalize Learning: Toolkit | UDL & ICT in education | Scoop.it

How do you personalize learning? First you need to know what personalized learning is. Here is a new site that provides resources, research, models, examples, and stories. This page provides a toolkit that can help your organization begin personalizing learning to meet the needs of all learners. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) provides the framework in personalizing learning for all learners. UDL also guides the design of the Personal Learner Profile[TM]. It provides the UDL lens to select the appropriate tools for the Personal Learning Backpack[TM] that helps them access information, engage content, and express what they know. UDL guides how Personalized Learning meets the Common Core.

Stephen Petrucci reflects that Band is UDL, Personalized Learning and 21st Century learning.  "Music tends to do that and is therefore an excellent tool that can be exploited and explored in all three principles of the Universal Design for Learning framework. These three principles are based on activating different parts of the brain."

UDL Guides Personalizing Learning to Meet the Common Core

UDL Guides Personalizing Learning to Meet the Common Core | UDL & ICT in education | Scoop.it

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is used to design curriculum, lessons and instruction based on the diversity of the learners in their classroom.

How can UDL guide personalize learning to meet the Common Core?

When a teacher understands his/her learners through the UDL lens, he/she creates a flexible learning environment and provides opportunities for learner voice and choice. When lessons are designed using the UDL model, the lesson includes goals, methods, materials, tools, and assessments to reach and support the maximum amount of learners in the classroom. Learners can use this model to help them understand how they learn best and what learning path they can take to become an independent expert learner, leveraging their natural abilities in the process. This process helps the learner create their personal learning profile that is understood by both teacher and learner.

The importance of this strategy is that both the teacher and the learner understand who the learner is and how they learn best. The learner and the teacher uses the UDL lens to personalize learning. So what does that look like? An example of an 8th Grade unit on the Civil War serves as an example along with two students who can meet a number of CCSS when they choose and use the tools to support their learning. Explore our new website, Personalize Learning (www.personalizelearning.com), to learn more about the research, models and educators who are personalizing learning.

Digital Learning should be Personalized Learning | UDL & ICT in education | Scoop.it

Learning is most effective when it’s personalised. That happens when people feel they are participants in their own learning, shaping what and how they learn, and able to articulate its value to them.

"Anita Strang is a Vice Principal of an Elementary School who is passionate about designing learning environments that are personalized with the goal of supporting children in becoming successful learners who are able to find joy and passion in learning and in being present in their lives and their communities. I believe that as we rethink schools we need to widen our vision and see schools as community hubs where we come together to raise our children." She shares her blog that contains a wealth of resources for any educator who wants to create a UDL environment.

Reaching Students With Special Needs Through E-Learning

Students with special learning needs often benefit from different and more personalized ways of mastering classroom material. More virtual education opportunities are now available to help meet the academic needs of children with cognitive or physical disabilities, those learning English, gifted and talented students, and those at risk of academic failure. Educators are trying to balance the potential of virtual learning with the need for face-to-face instruction for these groups of students. They are finding that assistive technologies, social-networking tools, and multimedia curricula are helping to build e-learning programs for students from special populations that can help improve academic achievement.
