MeeGenius!

MeeGenius! | UDL & ICT in education | Scoop.it

MeeGenius is a great resource for both free and paid ebooks designed specifically for kids. The website has an awesome interface which obviously shows that kids were in mind while designing the template. MeeGenius stands out from the crowd by the unique features it offers to its users. I know several websites provide ebooks for free but not all of them are as good as MeetGenius. MeeGenius is available both on the web and on mobile devices particularly iPhone, iPad, and Android. Among the features that MeeGenius offers to its users and that distinguishes its service from other similar web platforms is the automatic word highlighting option that accompanies each narration of each book. The mobile version of MeeGenius lets users eiither choose to read the stories by themselves or have them read by others.

iPads in Speech-Language Therapy | BPS Educational Technology Team | UDL & ICT in education | Scoop.it

"Last year, the elementary school speech-language pathologists received iPads to use with their students. They were an immediate hit. Aside from the “cool factor”, we found them to be a new way to engage our students in their speech-language therapy as well as an effective means to address their goals."

16 Apps for Elementary Students with Non-Verbal Learning Disability

16 Apps for Elementary Students with Non-Verbal Learning Disability | UDL & ICT in education | Scoop.it

In this post, 16 Apps for Elementary Students with Non-Verbal Learning Disability (NVLD) are examined. New apps on the iPad can assist students with remediation as well. While apps are not as advanced as specialized software right now in terms of full support for specific academic skills, they are improving. Most apps that have been developed to date focus on the remediation aspect and not support. There are huge advantages to using an app for remediation or to bypass the challenges associated with NVLD on the iPad: the ability to manipulate the information on the screen, high level of engagement, mobility, and full interactivity. Here are our recommendations for apps for elementary students that have difficulty with the above-mentioned areas."

Thomas Suarez - iPhone Application Developer... and 6th Grader

Thomas Suarez is a 6th grade student at a middle school in the South Bay of Los Angeles. When Apple released the Software Development Kit (SDK), he began to create and sell his own applications. "My parents, my friends and even the people at the Apple store all supported me," he says, "and Steve Jobs inspired me". Thomas points out that it's hard to learn how to make an app. "For soccer you could go to a soccer team ... but what if you want to make an app?" He's started a club for fellow students at school, where he shares his knowledge of programming. Thomas articulates his vision that students are a valuable new technology resource to teachers, and should be empowered to offer assistance in developing the technology curriculum and also assist in delivering the lessons.Thomas has been fascinated by computers and technology since before kindergarten. Recently, he's been focused on the development of applications for the iPhone, and has established his own company, CarrotCorp http://www.carrotcorp.com/
