A Glog that Tells the UDL Story

A Glog that Tells the UDL Story | UDL & ICT in education | Scoop.it

"No two students are the same, no two students process information the same, and therefore students deserve to have information presented in multiple ways, students should be encouraged to showcase their knowledge in multiple ways, and students should be motivated in multiple ways." Melissa tells the story of UDL and includes video of UDL and the three principles along with the tools that can help support a diversity of learners in the classroom:   the CAST Lesson Builder, UDL Curriculum Self-check and Book Builder.

Curricular Opportunities in the Digital Age | Students at the Center

Curricular Opportunities in the Digital Age | Students at the Center | UDL & ICT in education | Scoop.it

This paper explores how new digital technologies can be used to design curricula that are flexible enough to adapt readily to individual differences. The authors propose that universal design for learning—as the confluence of advances in the neuroscience of human variability and in multimedia technologies—can create an “ecology for learning” which provides rich, diverse, student-centered learning pathways for all students.

Meeting the Challenge of Variability in Today's Elementary Classrooms

In today's classroom, the mix of students is more diverse than ever. Educators are challenged to teach all kinds of learners to high standards, yet a single classroom may include students who struggle to learn for any number of reasons. Join experts in the field of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) who provide participants with tools, strategies, and principles for designing lessons and units of study that meet the diverse needs of today's students. Universal Design for Learning helps meet the challenge of diversity by suggesting flexible instructional materials, techniques, and strategies that empower educators to meet these varied needs. Participants will.

The 9 Types of Collaborators - Infographic

The 9 Types of Collaborators - Infographic | UDL & ICT in education | Scoop.it

If you approach your collaboration strategy with a “one-size-fits-all” mentality, your rollout is far more likely to fail. There exist all different types of users that each prefer to work in their own unique ways – some prefer to work in groups, others in silos, some on iPads, others on pen and paper. They also have different needs for the solution – some just need to share files, or manage tasks, or automate processes with workflows. Learning to recognize the different types of collaborators and their reasoning for loving, or hating, collaboration will allow you to help each overcome their biggest barriers or objections.

UDL in the Classroom - Reaching All Students with Technology - Classroom 2.0

UDL in the Classroom - Reaching All Students with Technology - Classroom 2.0 | UDL & ICT in education | Scoop.it

Lisa Parisi will be presenting on UDL in the Classroom at the 2012 Social Learning Summit.  Here is a description of the presentation that will be filled with great strategies in using social media in a UDL classroom.

Session Description: We, as educators, are faced with many different challenges. We have a large amount of curriculum to cover, tests our students must do well on, and a public who believes one size fits all works in the classroom. Our students are getting burned out quickly. And one size fits all does not take into account the learning disabled child, the ADHD child, the hearing impaired child, the bored child, the struggling reader, the math phobic child, the artistic child, the leader, the follower, or any other "out of the norm" student (whatever that might be). Web 2.0 tools afford us the opportunity to help all students meet the curricular requirements, demonstrate knowledge, learn, and enjoy school. Learn how to use collaborative tools such as Google docs, presentation tools like Glogster, and research tools such as Discovery Streaming to enliven your classroom. Today, there is no excuse for not reaching all children. Come hear how easy it is."

Preparing and Supporting Teachers for 21st Century Expectations through Universal Design for Learning

Integration of 21st century goals into teacher education programs requires attention to diversity, technology, and instructional supports in terms of how content material is presented, students are engaged, and learning is documented. Faced with barriers such as disparities in access to curriculum and technology, as well as differences in background experiences and prior knowledge, teachers in today's classrooms face unique challenges as they struggle to meet the diversity of needs within a single classroom setting. As a result, educators need innovative approaches to address the diversity of available resources, student characteristics, and other environmental challenges. One approach is the integration of Universal Design for Learning principles with instructional planning.

Differentiated Instruction with UDL | National Center on Accessible Instructional Materials

Differentiated Instruction with UDL | National Center on Accessible Instructional Materials | UDL & ICT in education | Scoop.it

Not all students are alike. Based on this knowledge, differentiated instruction applies an approach to teaching and learning that gives students multiple options for taking in information and making sense of ideas. Differentiated instruction is a teaching theory based on the premise that instructional approaches should vary and be adapted in relation to individual and diverse students in classrooms.
