Ubuntu is one of the best Linux platforms with an awesome desktop for regular users (and soon phone and tablets and more!) and great servers for system administrators and devops.

Ubuntu launches its campaign to win developers for all platforms to its platform. Android devs can now use the Ubuntu Developer Tools Center (UDTC) to download and run the latest Android Studio integrated development environment. Of course, ideally UDTC users will pull down the Ubuntu SDK tools as well.

A smartphone that can work as a desktop may be a long shot but the pursuit of mobile technology has brought many benefits to Ubuntu, according to Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth.

"We've got robots with snappy Ubuntu, we've got switches with Snappy Ubuntu, we've got cars that are going to be shipping with Snappy Ubuntu. All that is our mobile platform, just without the GUI. We could never have predicted that four years ago."

UT One Ubuntu Tablet Delayed; Rooted Android Device May Come Instead | Ubuntu content from The VAR Guy | Ubuntu Touch Phones and Tablets | Scoop.it
The UT One tablet, the mobile device based on Canonical's Ubuntu Touch Linux OS, has been delayed, but its developer may instead release an Android device that can also run Ubuntu.

Disappointing, if not entirely surprising development. Given the trouble Vivaldi had with manufacturing, aligning the hardware and software capabilities is a hard problem. Something tells me that the Demski Group doesn't have the capital to "build a factory."

Hoping the new year brings better news from Canonical!
