The War of 1812

For two and a half years, Americans fought against the British, Canadian colonists, and native nations during the war of 1812. It was an important war of pride, conquest and beliefs that shaped North America. There was no clear winner.

North Korea or the United States: Who is a Threat to Global Security? | Global Research

North Korea or the United States: Who is a Threat to Global Security? | Global Research | Types of War | Scoop.it

Most people in America consider North Korea as an inherently aggressive nation and a threat to global security.

Media disinformation sustains North Korea as a “rogue state”.

The history of the Korean war and its devastating consequences are rarely mentioned. America is portrayed as the victim rather than the aggressor.

North Korea lost thirty percent of its population as a result of US led bombings in the 1950s.

US military sources confirm that 20 percent of North Korea’s  population was killed off over a three year period of intensive bombings:

“After destroying North Korea’s 78 cities and thousands of her villages, and killing countless numbers of her civilians, [General] LeMay remarked, “Over a period of three years or so we killed off – what – twenty percent of the population.”

It is now believed that the population north of the imposed 38th Parallel lost nearly a third its population of 8 – 9 million people during the 37-month long “hot” war, 1950 – 1953, perhaps an unprecedented percentage of mortality suffered by one nation due to the belligerence of another.” (See War Veteran Brian Willson. Korea and the Axis of Evil, Global Research, April, 2002)

Main ideas of the war found here!

cameron kopp's curator insight, November 17, 2013 1:25 PM

This is an awesome video that summarizes the Civil War in a brief video.  I would use this video because it is brief video that makes alot of important points that go along with the Civil War. I would use this video to accompany a lecture, or used as a review of the unit because many points that I would talk about are also part of this video.  This is also smart because some students will need this because they are visual learners and will need the repitition in order to understand, and learn the information.

The War on Terrorism

"I don't think there's any question that when you get the number one terrorist in the world, that we're a little safer today than we were when he was alive. But I also don't think we ought to kid ourselves that killing Usama Bin Ladin kills al-Qa'ida. Al-Qa'ida still remains a threat, they're still going to try to attack our country, and I think we have to continue to be vigilant and continue the effort to ultimately defeat these guys. We damaged them, but we still have to defeat them."

Conflicts

One expectation of a grade seven student is to identify types of conflicts and conflict resolutions. Some examples of conflicts that happen include Rebellions/Revolutions, Strikes, Protests, War and Bycotts. These various conflict still happen today, whether it be the Occupy Movement of the Syrian Revolution. Conflicts and their resolutions have helped shape the course of history, changing "Canada" (Before confederation) during the late 1830's by revolutions that were clearly anti-oligarchy. Though the rebellions were a failure, in the long run, they helped the formation of a Responsible Government.
