THE average working week now stands at just over 31 hours, new figures from the Central Statistics Office show.

Although the weekly earnings in the private sector increased marginally, while those in the public sector fell, public sector staff are still paid €285 on average more a week than staff in the private sector

Apparently, the private sector "contributes 65% of the country's GDP. It also accounts for 75% of national employment, and around half of the country's tax revenue. These figures are something nobody expected 60 years ago"
