This video was incredibly sweet and I loved how it showed his life without Liz. You can't help but feel for Matt and i loved the part when he talked about being conflicted with joy and saddness regarding his new daughter and missing his wife. Truly incredible

Two Kisses for Maddy

Summary, theme, and review.

Gergana Petrova's insight:

Two kisses for Maddy is a non-fiction novel by Matt Logelin about how his life was turned upside down in a matter of 24 hours. He started out this free and careless life with his new wife, Liz, in California after years of long distance dating and being separated due to school and work. Matt got lucky and married his high school sweetheart and was ready to begin their new life together. They spent a large majority of the beginning of their marriage travelling the world and they really had the perfect marriage. Matt and Liz had married their best friend. Two years later, they found out Liz was pregnant. Unfortunately, she did not have the easiest pregnancy. Right from the very beginning, Liz's pregnancy was characterized by violent morning sickness which kept her bed-ridden for the majority of her pregnancy. Towards the end of her term, she was required to be hospitalized due to worsening complications which began to endanger not only her, but the baby as well. Liz delived the baby after weeks of lying in the hospital while Matt visited her after work each day and even slept in an uncomfortable chair next to her bed-side just so he could be with her every day. Madeline was born a few weeks premature which prolonged their stay in the hospital. One day, as Liz got up to see her new baby, she collapsed as soon as she got out of bed. She had suffered from a blood clot, and unfortunately, died instantly. Suddently, Matt had to raise his new baby girl without the comfort of his best friend by his side. This novel is about how Matt adjusts to becoming a widow and a first time single parent all in one day. But most importantly, Logelin logs how him and Maddy grow together day by day and all of the adventures they have embarked on. This is a story on a fairytale love story abrupted shortly, but also on the beauty and new love which has emerged from it.

Theme: The theme of the story is learning how to overcome traumatizing events in your life and learning how to find love in even the darkest of times. Matt Logelin did not prepare for his wife to die as soon as they were about to embark on a new adventure with their new baby. As the book progresses Logelin inspires readers with the overwhelming love he shows for Maddy and the love he still has for his wife, even though she can't be with him to experience the adventures Matt and Maddy embark on. This story is truly inspiring and uplifting and makes the reader believe in love again.

Review: I absolutely loved this novel. I have been following Matt and Maddy's story ever since they appeared in People magazine a couple of years ago and their story is truly uplifting. Logelin is inspiring in the way he describes his life with Maddy and the little things he does to commemerate his wife so Maddy know who her mom is. This book shows that there are truly wonderful dads out there who will go to the ends of the Earth for their children, and has also taught me to always perservere even through the toughest of obstacles.
