And people will come across it in a variety of ways -- whether they're searching for employees at your company or in your industry, or they met you in person and want to remind themselves what you do or learn more about your accomplishments. Social Media’s Video Evolution Brings Us Back to the Basics of Human Communication

Social Media’s Video Evolution Brings Us Back to the Basics of Human Communication | Career Development | Scoop.it
There are no constants in the social media industry. To be successful, every social platform and any business that depends on it must continuously iterate, optimize and evolve.

While this tends to be the case for any technology-driven industry, it’s especially true for social media. After all, when we’re talking about social media, we’re not just talking about a technology or an industry, but a force that has transformed the way humans communicate on a daily basis.

10 Principles of Leading Change Management

10 Principles of Leading Change Management | Career Development | Scoop.it

Since the mid-2000s, organizational change management and transformation have become permanent features of the business landscape. Vast new markets and labor pools have opened up, innovative technologies have put once-powerful business models on the chopping block, and capital flows and investor demand have become less predictable. To meet these challenges, firms have become more sophisticated in the best practices for organizational change management. They are far more sensitive to and more keenly aware of the role that culture plays. They’ve also had to get much better on their follow-through.

Yet according to a 2013 Strategy&/Katzenbach Center survey of global senior executives on culture and change management, the success rate of major change initiatives is only 54 percent. This is far too low. The costs are high when change efforts go wrong—not only financially but in confusion, lost opportunity, wasted resources, and diminished morale. When employees who have endured real upheaval and put in significant extra hours for an initiative that was announced with great fanfare see it simply fizzle out, cynicism sets in.

When I’m in a pinch or into something new, one of the first places I turn is toward a template. I’ve built a stash ofheadline formulas, social media updates, and more to help organize my mind when it comes to working fast and learning something new.

Templates can be a lifesaver and a time-saver.I have my favorite go-to templates, and I was also able to dig up a huge number of others, created by some really amazing folks who are generous to help us all work smarter. I’ve collected them here below. I’d love to know which ones might be useful to you!...

Get Your Message Across to a Skeptical Audience

Get Your Message Across to a Skeptical Audience | Career Development | Scoop.it

Persuasion researchers know that decision-makers will often place their faith less in what is being said, and more in who is saying it. For good reason–following a trusted authority often reduces feelings of uncertainty. In today’s constantly changing business environment, it’s increasingly the messenger that carries sway, not the message. Therefore, it’s crucial that you convince your audience you have the necessary expertise to make a recommendation – which can present problems if you lack credibility. You need to be seen as competent and knowledgeable, yet recounting a list of your accomplishments, successes and triumphs, however impressive, will do little to endear you to others. No one likes a braggart. But arranging for someone to do it on your behalf can be a remarkably efficient tactic in overcoming the self-promotion dilemma.

Seemingly out of nowhere, strange interview questions like, “If you were an animal, which one would you want to be?” or “Tell me about your most awkward moment,” have become surprisingly popular with hiring managers. As if the interview process wasn't stressful enough.

5 Office Mistakes Costing Millennials the Promotion

5 Office Mistakes Costing Millennials the Promotion | Career Development | Scoop.it

Now that career-minded Millennials make up 50 percent of our workplace, it's safe to assume (like every other generation to enter the work force) they'll want to earn promotions as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, we're hearing across the board that a lot of Millennial workers aren't promotion material, citing a lack of drive and professionalism. However, the real problem lies in a lack of Millennial understanding of the power of perception. In my experience, simple insights are all Millennials need to turn things around.

"People hear what they see." --Doris Day

We know actions speak louder than words. What some Millennials don't understand is certain actions at work give the perception they're lazy and unskilled.

Let's take a look at the most common mistakes Millennials make and how they get misperceived.

Many studies and reports focus on the best times to post to social media.

These are good starting points, but because every organization has a different audience, the accuracy of these times will vary. One organization's audience might be on social media during the workday, whereas another's is active on weekends.

How to Deliver the Right Content at the Right Time across the Right Channel to the Right Audience

How to Deliver the Right Content at the Right Time across the Right Channel to the Right Audience | Career Development | Scoop.it
Content marketing is a game with winners and losers, those that win the content game engage more of their audience, attract more customers, retain and upsell to existing customers and ultimately improve their bottom line. I’ve been content marketing for years and the following are a few rules which should help you.

Make Content Available across Devices

It never ceases to amaze me the number of people that obviously spend a great deal of time producing content only to publish it on a mediocre website, which doesn’t work properly on mobile devices. You want the content that you distribute to live on your website, which should be the hub of all things. But, if your website is not responsive (mobile friendly) then over half your potential audience cannot easily consume the content and all you will do is drive over half your audience away.

By making your website responsive, you’ll please all of your audience and you’ll also get an search engine boast as Google now identifies mobile friendly websites within its search results

Cause-based marketing aimed at Millennials: Good ideas and bad. | Career Development | Scoop.it

Cause based marketing is the biggest trend in the industry. The influence of Millennials is growing and attention spans are shortening, and leveraging socially positive causes has become one of the key methods for brands to be seen as benevolent, hip and relevant.

However, it’s not as simple as attaching a dollar figure to a cause, and it doesn’t matter if you wrap a bad campaign in a good cause, it’s still a bad campaign, which in the end will be more damaging to your brand. With this in mind, here are some of the best and worst examples of recent cause-based campaigns, as well as some key insights on what to do and what to avoid....

Do you have a job interview coming up? Congratulations! You have jumped through lots of hoops to get this far. Now it is just a matter of negotiating the interview. Interviews, like taxes, are an inevitable part of life and, if they terrify you, it is better to face the fear and learn how to manage them. This article by Jacquelyn Smith gives you a heads up on how to do just that. Demystifying and normalising the whole process will let you take control of your emotions. Having butterflies in your stomach at the prospect of an interview just means you are human- get them to fly in formation for you! Be a strategist you can eliminate the unknown by following the 3 Ps: Preparation, Planning and Practice.  Confidence is the foundation of a great interview experience so make things easy on yourself. Think of the interview as a meeting and an exchange of information. If you start to feel overwhelmed, use some relaxation techniques and focus any self-talk on what you have achieved so far in your career. Have some great questions to ask, be confident in your appearance, be polite to everyone you meet- remember the interview starts the minute you set foot in the building! Be enthusiastic; show them what their ROI will be by showing them what you can offer the employer that none of the other candidates can!  What has your experience of Interviews been?  Do you have any advice that you would like to pass on to someone who has one coming up? Share your interview experiences good or bad with us!
