'Grey's Anatomy's' Shonda Rhimes: 'Any Number of People Could Be Departing' | TVFiends Daily | Scoop.it

Grey's Anatomy will go into its upcoming ninth season down two characters with a third on the way out but that may not be all that's in store when the Shonda Rhimes medical drama returns in September.

Following the finale that saw Owen (Kevin McKidd) fire Teddy (Kim Raver) and the deadly plane crash claim Lexie's (Chyler Leigh) life, there's a strong possibility that any number of people could be joining Lexie in the great beyond.

Confirming that Derek, Cristina and Meredith will all survive the crash, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) and Mark's (the departing Eric Dane) days may be numbered showrunner Rhimes hints in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Last Resort: How The Shield's Creator is Bringing a "Monstrous Scope Show" to ABC - IGN

Last Resort: How The Shield's Creator is Bringing a "Monstrous Scope Show" to ABC - IGN | TVFiends Daily | Scoop.it

Last Resort tells the story of what happens when the commander of a nuclear submarine refuses orders to fire – in the midst of very suspicious and suspect circumstances – ultimately bringing the sub and its crew to a small island, where they maintain a very uneasy relationship with the locals, while trying to decide what their next move is – all while in a standoff with their own country.

Said Ryan, “It's not like I didn't want to do something of a huge scale like this before. But this is a really difficult show from a storytelling standpoint, from a production standpoint, to have the production in Hawaii and to manage that. It's a big budget, very huge, monstrous scope show that I don't think I would have been capable of doing before. So it's not like my ambitions have grown, but my feelings about my capability to live up to those ambitions has grown, I think.”

"The show is grungy and blue-collar and violent and profane," he said. "I just think the Emmy voters don't like it that much. I don't see the Emmys at this point giving it any recognition. TCA 2012: FX Will Give You More Louie, and (Probably) a Lot More Charlie Sheen | Entertainment | TIME.com | TVFiends Daily | Scoop.it

Sheen’s new FX show, Anger Management, has an unusual deal with the network; if its first ten episodes hit a certain ratings threshold, it gets another 90. (Tyler Perry has a similar deal for his sitcoms.)...

Though Landgraf only announced a renewal for Louie, he had other love to spread around: he expects Wilfred to have several seasons on the network, and Justified “at least six.” The network will shoot a pilot for The Bridge, based on a Scandinavian detective drama. (The Killing, evidently, did not put them off.) The superhero drama Powers is still alive and writing more scripts, though its pilot will need to be recast and reshot if it’s picked up.

However, that hasn’t been the end for Powers. FX, initially saying they expected to do substantial reshoots on the pilot were it to move forward, has continued to develop the project and today at the TCA (television Critics Association) press tour, FX president John Landgraf acknowledged the rather notable work being done for a series still not officially picked up.

Aside from the Kardashians, it may just be that the Palins are the most prolific reality television family working today. Before Bristol hits the dance floor once again, here's a look at a timeline of their various TV endeavors.

With Key and Peele looking on during the June 1 visit to the White House, Obama was delivering his lines for the weekly address video when suddenly he stopped to clear his throat.

Peele recounted the President looking over to a young woman helping produce the weekly taping, and a bottle of water at her side.
“So he (Obama) looks to the Secret Service and asks 'can we can trust her, can I use some of this water?' Peele added, doing an Obama impersonation that earned the sketch comedy duo two thumbs up and an invitation to the Oval Office.

Pay-TV industry not united on TV Everywhere

Pay-TV industry not united on TV Everywhere | TVFiends Daily | Scoop.it

...differing approaches illustrate a divide in the media industry over how best to put content on the Web while also keeping customers hooked to their TVs.  In 2009, cable giant Comcast Corp.and Time Warner — parent of TNT, TBS, HBO and other popular channels — unveiled TV Everywhere, an initiative that was to be a blueprint for the pay-TV industry to develop a platform to let subscribers watch content on their computers, phones or tablets. The proposition was simple enough: Take all that is good about television — lots of channels at the click of a button — and transfer it online.  The hope was that by offering subscribers more content online, people would be less likely to cut the cord to their cable or satellite TV service in favor of so-called over the top services such as Netflix, Hulu and Roku. TV Everywhere was also meant to discourage programmers from giving away their shows for free online.  But in the three years since it was conceived, TV Everywhere has struggled to gain traction.  "It's simply a mess," BTIG media analyst Rich Greenfield said. "A complete and utter failure."  Andy Heller, vice chairman and TV Everywhere point person for Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting, believes "the real stumbling block has been deals." Some programmers and distributors, Heller said, are using TV Everywhere contract talks as an excuse to try to "change terms and conditions" of other contracts.  Another problem is that neither the programmers nor the pay-TV providers can decide who should be the gatekeeper for content online. Some consumers have to register at multiple networks to watch content, while others can do one-stop shopping through their distributor.  "We're trying to figure out, can you have a single access point?" said Mike Hopkins, president of distribution for Fox Networks. "It's technically complicated but not impossible."

Presumably validating the network's decision not to broadcast live, Friday (July 27) night's coverage of the Opening Ceremony from the London Olympics drew a record-breaking audience to NBC.

Friday's NBC coverage averaged 40.7 million viewers, topping the 39.8 million viewers who watched the Atlanta Opening (which was broadcast live for much of the country) in 1996. This opening finished far ahead of the 34.9 million viewers who watched the opening from Beijing in 2008 or the 27.3 million who watched the 2000 opening from Sydney.
