Samsung Electronics is actively promoting Smart TV to compete with Sony's Google TV and aims to ship 12 million units in 2011, accounting for 30% of the global Smart TV shipments.

The global LCD TV market is expected to reach 215 million, up 13% on year. LED-backlit models are expected to account for 40-50% of the global LCD TV market and 30-40% for Smart TVs.

Five million connected TV sets will be sold in Germany this year, according to the high tech association Bitkom. This will be almost a tenfold increase within two years. The first internet-enabled TV sets were available in 2009. “Thanks to the high market penetration of hybrid devices, internet and television will finally merge. The web connection is now a standard feature in modern TVs “said Bitkom president Prof. Dr. August-Wilhelm Scheer.

Now, you don't even have to leave your couch -and that's making cable networks and Hollywood studios nervous. Now that transmedia is everywhere and the Producers Guild of America have turned the ‘transmedia producer’ into a bona fide (or at least recognised) professional role one thing that rears it’s cross-media head is, who and where are the best transmedia producers going to come from? I have spent a good part of the last 15 years mentoring & training traditional & non-traditional media types in multiple platform content and now question where the best producers of this multifaceted ‘new’ content will come from – academia, film, book authors, social media consultants, game designers, TV, web developers, radio, advertisers, young, old, not yet born? Deloitte’s “State of the Media Democracy” Survey: TV Industry Embraces the Internet and Prospers

In a media environment saturated with new and evolving online entertainment platforms, TV continues to be king. Released today, Deloitte’s fifth edition “State of the Media Democracy” survey reveals that 71 percent of Americans still rate watching TV on any device among their favorite media activities.

The survey results indicate that live viewing on a home TV system continues to be the most common method among individuals for watching their favorite programming, and supporting the notion that traditional television advertising continues to be a viable model. In addition, 86 percent of Americans stated that TV advertising still has the most impact on their buying decisions.
