Last week, the big five U.S. networks unveiled the new programming on their 2012-13 schedules. However, not all the concepts are “new” exactly, as a number of these series have been adapted from shows abroad.
In the way of scripted fare, The Family Tools, set for ABC’s midseason lineup, is based on the British sitcom White Van Man, which was produced by ITV Studios. Adrian Poynton, the creator of White Van Man, is serving as co-creator on the American version, which is being produced by ITV Studios America and ABC Studios. Also on ABC’s midseason roster, the new drama Red Widow is based on the Dutch format Penoza. The series is being adapted for U.S. television by Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg
