Contents rule. More than ever.

And maybe this time US has to think about a global audience that is more than ever interested in great video contents.

“At the end of the day, there may be 300 outlets where they used to be 10,” she said. “Everybody's getting a smaller piece of the pie, and the money seems to be shrinking as a result, but the consumer wants something that looks as good as ever.

“So you're making shows that are for a 50th of the audience you used to get, but you can't do it for a 50th of the effort or budget. It has to look as good as it ever did.”

How to create the best Social TV Shows - The 10 TV shows leading with social media

How to create the best Social TV Shows - The 10 TV shows leading with social media | TV tomorrow | Scoop.it
The most successful shows tended to offer strong social media hubs for the program at a network site or show-specific hubs, along with extensive Facebook FB 0.31% pages and Twitter engagement. “Glee’s” characters each have their own Twitter feeds, for instance.

For advertisers who are chasing these users, it’s important to set up national media campaigns that take into account online video, as well as anything “that extends a brand beyond the television viewing occasion.”

“A big part of the negotiation now,” said Kahn, “is about how do we extend television campaigns so that they live in social media and online video? That’s something [ad agencies and programmers] are trying to figure out together.”

Brad Tollefson's curator insight, April 22, 2013 6:38 PM
The work leverages the strengths of each medium it uses.

If you’re just putting video on the web, that’s not very exciting. The web is there to foster dialog, participation, it’s not television or a movie theater. If you’re going to use a mobile phone as one of your storytelling platforms, why not emphasize the user’s intimacy with the device. Smart phones have become intensely personal items.

In short, transmedia creators and producers would do well not to simply scatter their stories across different media. They have to carefully consider the features and strengths of the platform, and design the expression of that aspect of the narrative to take best advantage of them.

It’s also important for creators to place within each expression of the story a marker of some sort that will lead the audience to the next medium. This can be done subtly, within the context of the story, but some aspect of the interface will also need to more overtly tell us how to get to the rest of the presentation. Fail to do that well, and you’re audience (or as I prefer to call them, participants) won’t be able to enjoy the complete work...

Debbie Elicksen 's comment, May 1, 2013 10:44 AM

Brand experience is already 'transmedia,' but the opportunity with media convergence is to make it a coordinated story-based experience designed for audience participation.  Narrative = cognitive coherence and participation = stakeholders.
