Trophy hunting is the selective hunting of wild game animals...

Trophy hunting has firm supporters and opponents.

Public debate about trophy hunting often centres on the question of the morality of sport hunting and the question of the extent to which the money paid by trophy hunters benefits the population of game animals and the local economy.

Lion canned hunting, the person behind the ‘Hunter’

Lion canned hunting, the person behind the ‘Hunter’ | Trophy Hunting: It's Impact on Wildlife and People | Scoop.it
Firstly, let me introduce you to the gruesome and lucrative industry of canned hunting in South Africa.  It starts at lion farms (around 160 of them in South Africa), where lions are bred.  Shortly after their birth the cubs are taken from their mothers and taken to resorts and other places where tourists can pay to pet and interact with them.  Animal lovers queue too do this, I did, not knowing the fate of these cute affectionate lion cubs.  When these cubs reach an age where they are no longer

‘Canned hunting’ methods threaten ethical standards of Texas hunters

‘Canned hunting’ methods threaten ethical standards of Texas hunters | Trophy Hunting: It's Impact on Wildlife and People | Scoop.it
A disturbing trend in Texas and across the nation is drawing attention from hunters and non-hunters alike — raising deer in captivity, much like livestock, and then releasing them to be hunted as little as 10 days later. Extreme animal husbandry practices such as repeated forced semen collection, artificial insemination, bottle raising and often cavalier use of drugs to create abnormally large antlers are common in this industry, but have no place in wildlife management. Shooting a deer 10 days

Corey Knowlton's quest to import trophy of endangered rhino granted by USFW

In a decision that's certain to rile animal rights activists, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service removed the last hurdle in the way of Corey Knowlton's quest. More than a year after the wealthy Texan submitted the winning $350,000 bid for a Namibian government permit at a Dallas auction to shoot the animal, the agency announced that it approved his application for a separate U.S. permit to import the animal's carcass back home as a trophy.

As soon as Knowlton verifies that funds sitting in an escrow account have been wired to Namibia, a Fish and Wildlife official said, the permit is his.....
