Poaching fines get super-sized next year

Poaching fines get super-sized next year | Trophy Hunting: It's Impact on Wildlife and People | Scoop.it
The possible cost of getting caught poaching a trophy-class animal in Kansas will skyrocket in 2013.

For instance, get busted with an illegal whitetail deer that flirts with the magical 200 inches of antler and it could cost $20,000. An illegal bull elk that scores 350 inches could run you $45,000.

A poached mule deer with 130 inches of antler, which could be a 2-year-old buck, could run $1,800.

Trophy hunting is the selective hunting of wild game animals...

Trophy hunting has firm supporters and opponents.

Public debate about trophy hunting often centres on the question of the morality of sport hunting and the question of the extent to which the money paid by trophy hunters benefits the population of game animals and the local economy.

South African government must regulate this growing industry to protect lions from trophy hunters and over-eager tourists.

It is difficult to imagine an Africa without one of its most popular and revered creatures, the lion. Known by many as the King of the Jungle, the lion has traversed the wide-open spaces of Africa for centuries, capturing the hearts and imaginations of people around the world. Unfortunately, lions no longer roam as freely as they once did....

Bobcat hunting may return to Illinois after 40-year hiatus | Trophy Hunting: It's Impact on Wildlife and People | Scoop.it
The bobcat was on Illinois' threatened species list from 1977 to 1999.
Wildlife Margrit's insight:

What a beautiful creature! Why kill it?

This legalizing issue smells a bit fishy to me! At least as far as who is behind it.

Why should a hunter be allowed to take something that is owned by the public?

Please people of Illinois oppose such changes.

Hunting no longer about meat

Tom Kuglin got his goat and is a proud, ecstatic, “manhood” tested hunter of yore. He has stalked, hunkered and crouched until his 600 yard rifle provided the necessary disadvantage.

Tom is like other adolescents who buy into the creed of “hunting” in the wildness. He has fallen for the bloated rhetoric behind gun counters or has simply fallen for the ethic of the hunt (but not a hungry hunt)...

Why I don’t hunt

Why I don’t hunt | Trophy Hunting: It's Impact on Wildlife and People | Scoop.it
I find hunting abhorrent simply because they enjoy it. It disgusts me that I am part of a species that takes great joy in the killing of animals. Hunters don’t just enjoy killing an animal, they relish in it, take great pride in their accomplishment, brag about it and mount the horns (or the whole head) somewhere in their home as proof of their prowess.
