I really like Eric Spitz at the OC Register, he really hits the nail on the head regarding newspapers mistakes in the last 20 years. My favorite quote from this interview: " if you create more customers, who are more engaged in content, guess what, advertisers show up. Advertisers aren't loyal, they go where people are, where they're engaged." Amen.

That will make it tough on metered payment systems that rely on cookies to keep track of the number of articles people read. Times of London is reporting more than 150K digital-only subscribers and more than 350K bundled (print + digital) subs. That's an impressive  50% growth since the Times launched their paywall in July 2010 and the organizatio reports making more money now than before the launch of the paywall.
