Why Do Students Enroll in (But Don’t Complete) MOOC Courses? | Trends in EdTech | Scoop.it

"Less than 10 percent of MOOC students, on average, complete a course. That’s the conclusion of Katy Jordan of Open University, who published her analysis, pulled together from available data of some Massively Open Online Courses, or MOOCs. But do completion rates matter?"

For Students, Why the Question is More Important Than the Answer

For Students, Why the Question is More Important Than the Answer | Trends in EdTech | Scoop.it

In a traditional classroom, the teacher is the center of attention, the owner of knowledge and information. Teachers often ask questions of their students to gauge comprehension, but it’s a passive model that relies on students to absorb information they need to reproduce on tests.

What would happen if the roles were flipped and students asked the questions?

EDTC@UTB's curator insight, February 12, 2013 11:21 AM

Over the past 5 years, I have been successfully using a host of social media platforms, including blogs, microblogs, wikis, and cloud-based file sharing to maintain continual contact with students in my online graduate courses. What I like most about these tools is that they allow us to communicate and collaborate through our smart mobile devices without having to log in to the LMS. We are essentially "plugged in" 24/7.

I installed the code on several of my blogs.  Now when I'm logged in and editing my blog, I can add hyperlinked hotspots to any image.  I could do this with an HTML editor, but Taggstar makes it a much easier process.

Any diagram or image you post on a blog could become quite an interactive roadmap.  Fun!

The Difference Between Differentiation And Personalized Learning

The Difference Between Differentiation And Personalized Learning | Trends in EdTech | Scoop.it

"The difference between differentiation, personalized learning, and the individualization of learning sometimes seems like a matter of semantics, but that could be that terms are used interchangeably when they’re actually not the same. The biggest difference really is the starting point. Personalized learning starts with the learner first, where differentiation and individualization take something designed for masses and attempt to adapt it for individuals–a monumental to consistently do well."

There are methods and models for implementing blended learning -- from the flipped classroom, to the flex model.
