The online instructor/designer as map maker and tour-guide is a methaphor with some legs on it. When I build a class, I do like to provide a zero week introduction and orientation period for my students.  I give them the 'lay of the land' then we start together on a journey to the end of the course and the new ideas on the horizon.

Julia Hum/Educreations: One of the biggest, fastest shifts in ed tech the last couple years has been the evolution from the use of large interactive whiteboards to the use of mobile, agile multi-purpose apps.

Currently, there are at least six products, all competing to become teachers’ favorite. Replay Note, ScreenChomp, ShowMe, DoodleCast Pro, Knowmia, Explain Everything and Educreations all offer teachers the ability to record the visual and audio components of a “whiteboard” lesson on their iPads, and share it online.

With the push to iPads, apps like Educreations are bringing out the teacher in all our students. Do these new apps make a case for the Smartboard? Or do apps like Nearpod make it obsolete?
