Family income is now a better predictor of children’s success in school than race.

Children from rich family perform better than those from poor family... No surprize (writes The New York Times)... The interesting point is how this changed from 1960 to 2010. There has been an increase of 40% in the (already existing) disparity... that's already news... another point from the article: in 1960 the difference was mainly between the children's performance of mid- end higher-income family and that of the poorest families. Now, the difference between performance re the highest income family children and those of mid-income family is as high as the difference between the children's performance of mid-range income family and that of the lowest-range income family... one more point:  the richess of the family is the determining factor, no race or other factors are playing a significant role...
