The first ENO tree planting activity in Mauritania
The first ENO tree planting activity in Mauritania | Tree Planting and Environmental Education | Scoop.it

The activities of the reforestation program in the schools of Mauritania, initiated in 2011 by the NGO ADECA, have just been relaunched under the new 2012. A tree planting ceremony took place on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the Lycée of Atar.

Took part in the ceremony the principal of the School of Atar, the members of the teachers and leaders of the local team of the NGO.

Hundreds of students, boys and girls, participated actively in the ceremony of planting trees and flowers in this great institution of more than 1500 students. The School of Atar is one of the oldest secondary schools in Mauritania. Created shortly before independence, this continued until now to bring out thousands of national senior officials.

Note that reforestation activities this year are marked by the active participation of the international network "Environment Online" - ENO, which has appointed the Chairman of ADECA as coordinator for Mauritania.

Whither the weather? Climate change and conflict

Until recently, most writings on the relationship between climate change and security were highly speculative. The IPCC assessment reports to date offer little if any guidance on this issue and occasionally pay excessive attention to
questionable sources. The articles published in this special issue form the largest collection of peer-reviewed writings on the topic to date. The number of such studies remains small compared to those that make up the natural science base of the climate issue, and there is some confusion whether it is the effect of ‘climate’ or ‘weather’ that is being tested. The results of the studies vary, and firm conclusions cannot always be drawn. Nevertheless, research in this area has made considerable progress. More attention is being paid to the specific causal mechanisms linking climate
change to conflict, such as changes in rainfall and temperature, natural disasters, and economic growth. Systematic climate data are used in most of the articles and climate projections in some. Several studies are going beyond statebased conflict to look at possible implications for other kinds of violence, such as intercommunal conflict. Overall, the research reported here offers only limited support for viewing climate change as an important influence on armed conflict. However, framing the climate issue as a security problem could possibly influence the perceptions of the
actors and contribute to a self-fulfilling prophecy.

India environment

Many people are advocates of tree planting. It is because they have realized how important it is to plant trees. Their existence has given tons of environmental benefits. Aside from that, it has also contributed to the wellness of mankind.
But if you want to know 8 reasons why you should start planting trees, here are some of them:
1. It keeps your home cool at all times, especially on hot seasons. Hence, you can still enjoy the outdoors because you are protected from the harmful rays of the sun.
2. Trees act as a natural shade for your home. Hence, it works to block sunlight from directly entering your homes. If it is strategically planted, your air conditioners would have lesser workload. As a result, your electricity bills would be greatly reduced.
3. Every house has its own carbon footprint. The more you use energy, the bigger the carbon footprint is. You may say question the need to pay attention to this matter. Well, bear in mind that carbon is one of the most popular greenhouse gases that has contributed to global warming. So the larger the carbon footprint of every home is, the more it accelerates the degradation of the environment.
The presence of trees helps reduce the carbon emitted in the atmosphere. As you all know, carbon is one of the elements that nourish plants. With trees surrounding your house, you are helping fight global warming.
4. Trees provide natural habitats to various species. Doing so helps prevent their extinction and you can also provide them homes.
5. They help create the most beautiful landscapes. Trees add beauty to your backyard, especially during spring. If you have fruit trees the better it is as the colors add more spunk to your place; also curb appeal.
6. It is the source of food. Trees give you additional sustenance to the family. So it is indeed a blessing as it adds food on the table. But that is not all you are getting. Even to the wastes it produces like dried leaves falling or trimmings are very useful in making compost. Hence, it can help you grow the healthiest plants and flowers by growing them organically.
7. It relieves stress. As mentioned above, trees absorb carbon dioxide; thus, cleansing the air. But they also emit oxygen, which improves air quality within in your surrounding. If you breathe in quality and oxygen rich air, you will be able to function well. And you are more adept when it comes to stress.
8. Some studies show that the presence of plants and trees in the community creates a safer place for dwelling. In fact, results have shown that places with greens have actually lesser crime rates. One study in Chicago Illinois that was conducted in 2001 showed that the presence of trees can actually reduce regression.
Don't you think trees can do a lot in making a world a better place? If you do, start planting trees and make your homes a better one too.

El Monte: plants Tree City goals one tree at a time

Volunteers including parents, students, community members, and a local soccer league planted dozens of trees at Wilkerson Elementary School Saturday - the latest effort in the city's push to become a Tree City USA.
The project - supported by Amigos de los Rios and the El Monte City School District - was funded through a grant from California ReLeaf, an organization that works to enhance the state's urban and community forests.

The grant is aimed at building momentum towards California's new Arbor Week, a new California State holiday that celebrates the benefits of trees to cities, businesses, and individuals.

El Monte is taking strides to be designated a Tree City USA - a designation by the National Arbor Day Foundation for cities that meet certain standards.

Earlier this month, 160 trees were planted at Madrid Intermediate school, as part of a celebration fo the 35th anniversary of the California Conversation Corps.

And in the near future, the city plans to plant 350 trees along Valley Boulevard.
