Travels in 80 Countries
For those seeking the thrills of adventures without joining the special forces, I will recommend Border Crossings in remote parts of the world. A nice way to cross a lot of borders in a limited amount of time is to bag one of the big "Roads" like the Silk Road or participate in multisports Races [you can take bigger risks as rescue teams are available].
Another way to put yourself in a risky situation is to explore Rebel Zones with active guerrillas or climb Active Volcanoes.
36 Maps That Explain The World

There may be no better way of explaining the world than through maps.

Whether they depict oil flows, internet cables, or migration patterns, a good map can explain a concept in a way that no other visualization can.

They may be even better than charts.

We've compiled 36 cartographic visualizations that depict the state of the world in 2013, and how we got there.

Paul Theroux "Saint Jack"

Paul Theroux "Saint Jack" | Travels in 80 Countries | Scoop.it

Saint Jack

Jack Flowers, saint or sinner, found a new lease on life when he jumped off the Allegro in the Straits of Malacca, caught a passing bumboat to Singapore and got a job as a water-clerk to a Chinese ship chandler. Soon he executed a brilliant idea, which resulted in his fame throughout the Far East - - work which Jack likens to that of an idealistic missionary. He continues to offer girls (indeed “anything, anything at all”) to tourists, sailors, residents and expatriates. In due course, he starts two establishments of his own -- ‘Dunroamin’ with its Indian palm court orchestra, and Paradise Gardens, a private hotel for American soldiers on leave from Vietnam.

Nicolas Bouvier

Nicolas Bouvier | Travels in 80 Countries | Scoop.it
