Despite recent press coverage surrounding the legitimacy and nature of travel customer reviews, 75% of consumer still think that the majority are ‘mostly genuine', according to research from eDigitalResearch. The research also found that 61% would be more likely to make a booking after reading a positive review.

Surge in leisure travellers owning smartphones

The latest British Hotel Guest Survey from BDRC Continental shows that smartphone ownership among business users remains static – but the rise in use among leisure travellers ‘will be sure to make hoteliers sit up and take note’.

According to the survey, 61% of leisure travellers own smartphones in 2012, up from 36% and 47% in 2010 and 2011 respectively.

BDRC Continental said babyboomers ‘are leading the pack’, with the growth of ownership in that segment now being double that of Generation Y.

The website, aimed at over-50s, will contribute to the ‘Travel and Lifestyle’ section of ageuk.org.uk, which attracts 5.5m visitors each year.

‘The new venture with Age UK will enable us to reach out to a much wider audience of older people who may be interested in contributing to both the website and the forum.

‘Ask 60- to 64-year-olds their aspirations for retirement and 81% say leisure activities and holidays.’
