Nap Anywhere Head Pillow for Travel
Dr. Ravi Shamaiengar, the 2012 Virginia Inventors Forum “Innovator of the Year”, has officially launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund his invention, NapAnywhereTM. The NapAnywhereTM is a sophisticated head-support pillow dubbed “part engineering, part architecture, and part origami.”
The device is a flat disc that’s light and portable enough to carry in a small bag. The fabric-covered pillow has a moldable frame that users can then bend and customize for their individual comfort. The head rests on a soft, curved surface with a vertical support and platform that molds over the shoulder evenly distributing the head’s weight.
“The NapAnywhereTM was designed with travelers in mind,” explains Shamaiengar, whose discomfort with air travel inspired the invention. “It is supportive and comfortable, yet lightweight and portable, and can provide a custom fit for each user. The result is an extremely lightweight device that can be molded to an individual’s shape, supporting the weight of their head while they nap. Once it’s put on correctly, you barely know it’s there.”
The NapAnywhereTM campaign launched on June 25 and will run for 30 days. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. NapAnywhereTM must meet its goal of $40,000 by July 25 or it will not receive any funding.
“We believe that this product will have a positive impact on many people,” says Shamaiengar. “The response from the Kickstarter community will help us gauge the public’s interest, fund the initial manufacturing runs, and bring the NapAnywhere to market.”
Kickstarter is a funding platform projects from films and music to design and technology. Since its launch on April 28, 2009, over $450 million has been pledged through Kickstarter by more than 3.2 million people, funding more than 34,000 creative projects.
