Pamela Volunteer Abroad in Arusha, Tanzania | Volunteers Abroad Reviews and Feedbacks | "#Volunteer Abroad Information: Volunteering, Airlines, Countries, Pictures, Cultures" | Scoop.it

I loved this trip. The children were wonderful and my co worker John was excellent. I am so glad I got to do more than one thing there, I know me and I would have been so bored to stay in the orphanage for 3 weeks. I loved going into the village and making a difference. We supplied a mattress for a paraplegic man with bilateral hip wounds. We took a very sick lady to the hospital and she recovered. The community support the tanzanians give each other is heartwarming. I passed out vitamins and was a role model for the young man I was working with. he is not medically trained but by watching me and the questions I asked and my assessment of the environments, I believe he learned alot. I hope he will take his new knowledge and pass it on. That is the ultimate reward to empower people to help each other.

ABroaderView's insight:

Benjamin Keepers: Honduras La Ceiba, Health Care Program March 2014.
Im studying Molecular Biology & Biochemistry, at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. I choose Honduras because I visited Guatemala last year and loved it. so I decided to visit another central american country. The spanish Immersion program was fantastic, I feel much better at speaking spanish now. The host family was very nice and did more than enough to accommodate me. The local coordinator was a greta teacher. Bring sterile gloves, usual hospital supplies, everyone coordinated & worked with me in a timely & professional manner.

Volunteer Program Honduras La Ceiba for PreMed and PreNurse Students with Abroaderview.org | "#Volunteer Abroad Information: Volunteering, Airlines, Countries, Pictures, Cultures" | Scoop.it
ABroaderView's insight:

A Broader View volunteers just open a new program in Honduras La Ceiba for PreMed and PreNurse students to work in Clinics and Hospitals, from 1 week to 8 weeks we offer translators for volunteers without Spanish and Immersion lessons.

Here is a synopsis of the program:
There are two public hospitals in La Ceiba which serve the most impoverished people in the community. For undergraduates on a healthcare career path this project will have you shadowing local doctors and nurses in their daily routines. Your tasks will vary depending on your current skills, experience and Spanish language proficiency.

Assigned placements include but not limited to:

· Observation of cleaning wounds, removing sutures, draining abscesses
· Accompanying doctors on rounds and during consultations

This is a great chance to improve your skills, build your resume by learn about medicine in a developing nation and improve your Spanish. We recommend our language immersion option for those less than proficient in Spanish. However, translator are available ($15 per day) to help you get acclimated into the project. All volunteers need to bring their own supplies such as scrubs, gloves, mask, stethoscope.
