I had a great experience with ABV- I have absolutely NO complaints.  From the moment I signed up with ABV until the day I completed my program the ABV staff was very quick and diligent to answer all my questions/concerns.  They were very honest as to what to expect and didn't sugar coat anything.  They set me up with amazing people in Arusha that made sure I was very well taken care of.  When I was in Arusha I heard the stories of other volunteers everything from how their host family treated them, what they ate, their living conditions, and the fees their programs charged them- by far what ABV set me up was the best out of all of them.

I loved this trip. The children were wonderful and my co worker John was excellent. I am so glad I got to do more than one thing there, I know me and I would have been so bored to stay in the orphanage for 3 weeks. I loved going into the village and making a difference. We supplied a mattress for a paraplegic man with bilateral hip wounds. We took a very sick lady to the hospital and she recovered. The community support the tanzanians give each other is heartwarming. I passed out vitamins and was a role model for the young man I was working with. he is not medically trained but by watching me and the questions I asked and my assessment of the environments, I believe he learned alot. I hope he will take his new knowledge and pass it on. That is the ultimate reward to empower people to help each other.

This was an experience of a lifetime. It was eye opening, humbling and makes you so appreciative of the little things we take for granted. The greatest gift you can give is yourself, and there is no better feeling in the world. I decided to go on this journey by myself because I was personally going through changes in my life. I had only hoped that the feeling I would have coming home would be exactly what I imagined it to be and it is and so much more. My mind, body and soul is refreshed and renewed. I have become a better and stronger person because of this opportunity. I am so grateful and so thankful for everyone I met along the way during my time in Tanzania. They have forever changed me and made such a positive impact in my life. As much as I hope to have made a difference in all the lives I met, what they’ve done for me is priceless. The amount I have grown in 3 weeks is unbelievable, and I cannot wait to go back and experience more. Next time, I hope to stay longer. Lastly, don’t have any expectations; just go with an open mind. You will have the best time ever. It was the best risk and decision I have made in my life thus far.

This is a trip that I will never forget. Although some of the things we saw were hard to see, it’s reality and makes you want to help that much more. We want for so much in the US as far as materialistic things and don’t appreciate things we take for granted like running water, electricity, gas for our cars, and easy access to food. People in Tanzania don’t act entitled to anything- they appreciate everything they have. It changes your outlook on everything. It was hard to come back to the US and see how much we waste.
