An un-Belize-able trip: Diving into a whole other world

An un-Belize-able trip: Diving into a whole other world | Belize in Social Media | Scoop.it

Nice newspaper article about a dive trip to Belize.

"...At the pier, we were greeted by the home’s three “security” dogs, Betsy, Rojo and Brisa, who would keep us company for the next week. After getting acclimated with the dogs and the house, we spent the rest of the day relaxing around the pool and the pier.  Even though we were on vacation, we weren’t there just to lie by the pool. We had come with plans to take part in some of the activities that Ernesto and Belize had to offer..."

How to Spot a Whale Shark in the Belize Barrier Reef

How to Spot a Whale Shark in the Belize Barrier Reef | Belize in Social Media | Scoop.it
Ever wondered how to spot a whale shark?

"...Gladden Spit in the Belize Barrier Reef, located about 26 miles off the coast of Placencia, hosts a high concentration of whale sharks during the months of April and May, when schools of cubera snapper are actively spawning in the area. Gladden Spit is also a protected area, so the park rangers only allow six tour operator boats at a time, which contributes to the intimacy of the experience..."

Wetsuit or dive skin?

Wetsuit or dive skin? | Belize in Social Media | Scoop.it

Great post of something all divers and snorkelers visiting (or living in ) Belize struggle with by someone who knows.

"I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about whether to get a dive skin or a wetsuit for Belize snorkeling or diving, and whether to get a shortie suit or one with long arms and long legs. Many guests wonder why they need a wetsuit or skin at all (also called hydroskin, swim tights, and rashguard)..."

Top 5 Lesser-Known Dive Sites in Belize

Top 5 Lesser-Known Dive Sites in Belize | Belize in Social Media | Scoop.it

"Tell any avid scuba diver you’re en route to Belize, and you’re bound to hear:

“Oh, you’re doing the Great Blue Hole!”

It’s often assumed that divers travel to Belize to plunge into its most famous dive site — a gaping, 400-foot-deep cave in the center of an otherwise shallow lagoon in Lighthouse Reef Atoll. As one of the deepest and most awe-inspiring dives on the planet, it’s no wonder the Great Blue Hole is a famed attraction for Belize divers..."

Captain's Log - Belize Aggressor III

Captain's Log - Belize Aggressor III | Belize in Social Media | Scoop.it

A page from the log of the captain of a dive charter boat in Belize - "...We awoke Sunday at Long Cay with strong winds, but encountered fairly calm dives on the leeward side of the cay. We next ventured to Half Moon Cay for the afternoon and night dives, but T/S Rina would not let us alone even after her departure of the area. Strong NW winds and slightly milky water followed us around the area until we cruised to Turnneff where we had calm seas and much better visibility...."

Dive the Elements in Belize's Wild Atolls

Dive the Elements in Belize's Wild Atolls | Belize in Social Media | Scoop.it

Great story on a dive trip to Belize.

"...Ah, Belize. Even without the driving rain the place seeps into your skin. Easy going, English-speaking, the country can seduce you even in a gale. Divers have it particularly good here: Countless cayes, three of the Caribbean’s four atolls, and the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, second only in size to the Great. It runs along Belize’s entire 187-mile-long coast, giving you wall dives, drift dives, terraces, swim-throughs, rays, turtles and whale sharks. Here you’ll find 65 of the Caribbean’s 70 coral species and 320 of its 500 varieties of fish. Charles Darwin called it remarkable..."

The mermaid will lead you there: Avadon Divers

The mermaid will lead you there: Avadon Divers | Belize in Social Media | Scoop.it

Great interview with one of Belize's premiere dive operators.

"...I was talking to Anne Marie McNeil, co-owner of Avadon Divers. Her voice was the welcoming calm that I was looking for. I was a first time diver and anxiety about learning how to do it, from breathing to the gear, overwhelmed me. Her easy clear tone set me at ease and put me in the right frame of mind to complete a day of Discovery Scuba..."

SCUBA Diving in Belize Overview

SCUBA Diving in Belize Overview | Belize in Social Media | Scoop.it

A brief overview of SCUBA diving in Belize.

"...As the saying goes, big things sometimes come in small packages. With Belize—the second smallest and least populated nation in Central America—this couldn't be any more true as it packs a hemisphere’s worth of adventure within its borders. Divers obviously come for the prime oceanfront real estate along the second longest barrier reef in the world, but there’s so much more to see and do here..."
