Shalini VadheraPotts's insight:
I'm a firm believer in putting your best foot forward in everything you do. If you're a woman in business, your clothing and style is all part of your "packaging" and your personal brand. What does your wardrobe say about your business?
My 3 year old son (Ari) and I were heading to daycare the other day – the same exact route we always go. Yep. Every day, we walk down the same street to get there. I like to talk with him, as we walk – always pointing out things to notice.
I love this as a reminder to staying mindful and living in the now. It always amazes me how much time we spend (and waste) during our day thinking of the past or living in the future.
What can you do for 10 minutes each day to acknowledge the NOW?
Here are a few of my favorite daily rituals to living in the NOW...
Taking a few minutes a day to stop and do some breathing techniques is a great way to shift your focus on the moment. Counting to four on your inhale and extnding your exhale to the count of 5 keeps you in a place of NOW.
One of my favorite yoga practices, Dahn Yoga, teaches the art of tapping. I love to spend a few minutes everyday tapping pressure points on my chest, legs and abdomen. Not only does it release a lot of stress and tension, it allows me to get in touch with my body.
3. Getting In Touch With Nature
Taking a walk beachside, sitting under an old tree and smelling the roses are all ways I've learned to appreciate spending time in the now. As I've gotten older, I've come to cherish my time with nature as "my time". Its not time to lament the past or worry about the future. It's just time to stop... and smell the roses.
Taking a few minutes out of your day to acknowledge the things in your life that you are grateful for not only helps you stay in the now but fills your mind in body with such positivity. Spend a few minutes a day creating a gratitude list. I like to do mine before bed.

Through my own personal growth and search to find balance, a day doesn't go by that I'm told to meditate. There are so many ways to do meditation and even more benefits. My latest practice is a walking meditation where I repeat a mantra while walking through nature. I love it and the affects it has on my overall well being are amazing.
Here are some more reason why you just need to meditate!
As a self professed beauty junkie on all things global, I am always fascinated by what certain countries and cultures consider “beautiful”. Living between LA and NY and being in the beauty and entertainment industry I often feel that the “reality” of a beautiful body is skewed. Skinny is beautiful. I’m even guilty of being unbelievable hard on myself to keep my weight in “check” or by our standards what we consider beautiful – thin.
I recently found this article by Sumitra, who gave us a peek into what is considered beautiful in Mauritania. Force feeding young girls in the name of beauty. ”There is a disturbing custom in the African country of Mauritania, called Leblouh. Young girls are force-fed in order to become fat and hopefully find a good husband.” I was appalled by this practice and then I thought to myself, I’m sure they would have the same feeling knowing how we starve ourselves in the “name of beauty”. Is it really that different?
