Curation: Why Is The Content Curator The Key Emerging Online Editorial Role Of The Future? | Travel Curators and Curation Tools | Scoop.it

In a world submerged by a flood of information, content curators may provide a new, tremendously valuable service to anyone looking for quality information online: a personalized, qualified selection of the best and most relevant content and resources on a very specific topic or theme

Biggest issues to solve in content curation?

I felt we made the most progress in 2011:

  • “enable value-adding curators to get more tangible benefits from their activity “
  • “semi-automate low-grade curation so people are liberated to tackle the more challenging and valuable stuff”
  • “connect curators to share practices and elevate curation from craft to art”
  • “create communities through curation”
  • “augment the reader’s experience with curated content”
  • “accelerate Social Discovery of high-quality curators”
  • “augment the content producer’s experience”
  • “enable cooperative and collaborative curation”

Amassing Is Not Curating: Curation Filters The Flood For a Specific Purpose and Tribe

Excellent presentation delivered from Margot Bloomstein to the Web 2.0 Expo 2011 audience on October 11th on the topic of content curation.

In her 98 visual slides Ms Bloomstein does an excellent job of synthesizing, describing and highlighting the characterizing traits of true curation, while distinguishing clearly from similar aggregation practices.

Recommended.

The Demise of Quality Content on the Web - The Rise of Great Content Curators

  • The wells of attention are being drilled to depletion by linkbait headlines, ad-infested pages, “jumps” and random pagination, and content that is engineered to be “consumed” in 1 minute or less .... And the reality is that “Alternative Attention sources” simply don’t exist.
  • The Opportunity:  2012 will be the year of curation
  • Know your audience, know their pain points, find and select the best content, add your own opinions, information or anything that will provide more value for your audience
  • Select only the best content, don't just aggregate links that add to the noise
  • Become a trusted resource and many opportunities will come

Content Strategy, Curation for Travel Writers

Content Strategy, Curation for Travel Writers | Travel Curators and Curation Tools | Scoop.it
The online travel writer needs to be far more than a great writer these days. Here are some ideas about curation, engagement and connectedness.

"I think the Content opportunities for travel cos (and others) in 2011 online are all about curation. Rather than add yet more content to that vast overflowing pile out there, start to help people navigate to the good stuff. Become a trusted advisor and a useful friend. You might need to top it and tail it with some content of your own, but consider the amazing resourse that's already out there. Save your cash, don't recreate the wheel - just make it spin more smoothly."

What Curators NOT are, web curation vs. other curation, vs. aggregation

Excerpted from J.D. Hildebrand's article "I, curator".
The amount of information online is unfathomably vast and dreadfully disorganized. (...) Web-search technology is miraculously effective if you already know what you're looking for, but if you need to stay up-to-date on a handful of topics, search engines suffer from clunkiness and redundancy.

"Interesting analysis, ramblings and opinion what curation is all about, and some interesting pointers to good examples, curators (Rob Diana) and extra reading."

"I think it was inevitable. First, the web, then blogs. Content is king." (...) "Damn, I don’t need another social media platform. I love Twitter, tolerate Facebook, dabble with Google+, keep up with LinkedIn. I like the ones that let me sign in with Twitter or Facebook. But who needs another one?"
