Hansen Study: Climate Sensitivity Is High, Burning All Fossil Fuels Would Make Most Of Planet ‘Uninhabitable’

Hansen Study: Climate Sensitivity Is High, Burning All Fossil Fuels Would Make Most Of Planet ‘Uninhabitable’ | Transport | Scoop.it
Burning all fossil fuels would be a true scorched Earth policy. A new study by James Hansen et al finds that would warm land areas on average 36°F and the poles a stunning 54°F.

Via SustainOurEarth, Luster Class 2
JMS 1 Tutorial Group 8's insight:

this could become a reality as fossil fuels are used for so many industries, especially transport. Is this the future of the world? maybe electric powered and alternative energy vehicles really are the way to go

I agree with Luster class 2 because if we keep burning all these fossil fuels we will suffer, and people will start dieing.
Vanessa Chapman's curator insight, September 29, 2013 3:25 PM

The burning of our fossil fuels could potentionally make Earth an unliveable place. If we continue to use our fossil fuels we could end life on Earth as we know it. Some of the main carbon producing fossil fuels are coal, oil, and gas. These are 3 major materials we use in everyday life. We use it from daily transporation to our major factory producers. I think something needs to be done! For the future of Earth's life and for our existance now. We don't realized that everyday we're endangering ourselves more and more. We need to be aware of the things occuring around us and start finding new ways to go about our everyday lives without the uses of fossil fuels that are endangering us.

Samantha Fuller's comment, October 2, 2013 11:03 PM
I agree that we are over using fossil fuels way too much. It will be interesting to see what point it gets to before the world makes a change, and what changes we make. I didn't realize that the the three major materials used all contribute to the problem of using to much fossil fuel.

International aviation and tourism are inextricably linked. What you call passengers, we call tourists, and that includes both business and leisure travellers.
JMS 1 Tutorial Group 8's insight:

Expanding Air Groth in South Africa is a great idea, I don't believe that it's a new idea, it's probably something that has been in the minds of the people's who's minds it should be in. ZThis will definitely benefit South Africa in the long-run, so the money needed for this project, even though  it's a lot and almost un-affordable, it will definitely be worth it in the end

More Americans die from car pollution than car accidents

More Americans die from car pollution than car accidents | Transport | Scoop.it
Some day our descendants will marvel that we ever lived in cities filled with emissions direct from the tailpipes of cars.
JMS 1 Tutorial Group 8's insight:

This is a very interesting realization, but it doesn't really inspire me to change anything. When they say that more people die "prematurely" from air pollution, is it an accumulation of that pollution from the time that one was really young and one day they sort of just collapse because the pollution became too much for their bodies to handle? Does it make them sick, or maybe escalate a sickness one already has? If that is the case thn the pollution itself is not the main reason that person dies, whereas with a car accident, it's solely the cart accident! But I guess one could use the same aargument and say that because of the accident mixed with a person's heart-something-problem, that's the reason that person died from the accident. But whatevs, I'm not touched by this statistic.

Tolls are like toilets says Peters

Tolls are like toilets says Peters | Transport | Scoop.it
The user-pays principle to be implemented on Gauteng's freeways was comparable to paying to use a toilet, Transport Minister Dipuo Peters said on Thursday (10 October).
JMS 1 Tutorial Group 8's insight:

I do not like the tone in her voice and the types of ezamples she uses as though she is addressing little kids. What if we said we don't mind using dirty roads and thus do not want to pay for e-tolls? The fact that she also using emotional abuse, basically telling us that if we do notwant to pay for e-tolls we are essentially taking something away from the poor. Argh!

The DA is also annoying, the fact that they put up a billboard saying "E-tolls: Brought to you by the ANC" bores me. It would've been great if the ANC did actually comment on this, but they decided notto. Im not sure ifthis is a good thing or a bad thing.
