Why Every Brand Needs A Million-View Video 03/29/2012

Why Every Brand Needs A Million-View Video 03/29/2012 | Transmedia Thought Leadership | Scoop.it
Why Every Brand Needs A Million-View Video - 03/29/2012...The idea for this article was inspired by a little video with marginal production values about an obscure company that crossed my Twitter stream. It had 300 views when I started writing. By the time you read this, it will have more than 3 million views. I like to call this video Exhibit A (aka The Dollar Shave Club Launch Video).

Exhibit A has many things in common with another million-plus view video that I’ll go ahead and call Exhibit B (aka Hot Wheels Custom Motors Cup Challenge). But by far the most important thing in common is that both videos have a LOT of content that does NOT describe the product.

The Perks Of Media

The Perks Of Media | Transmedia Thought Leadership | Scoop.it
The Perks Of Media - 02/27/2012...

Most people in media advertising are aware that the buy side of the industry receives “perks” from sellers. This may come in the form of a complimentary lunch or dinner, thanks to the expense budgets of the media sellers. Tickets to baseball games, concerts or ski trips are some of the nicer benefits that media agency people can also experience. In this way, media is no different from other industries like finance where client entertaining is an integral part of doing business.

Black History Month 2012 Comes to a Close NOW WHAT?

Black History Month 2012 Comes to a Close NOW WHAT? | Transmedia Thought Leadership | Scoop.it

@wcntv commetnary

As Black History Month 2012 comes to a close, I cannot help but think about the future. Not just for African Americans, not just people of African descent but all of us who have been touched by Black History. February the shortest month of the year gets an extra day because it’s a LEAP YEAR. Let’s use that last day to LEAP FORWARD INTO THE FUTURE. WCNTV has some insights we have been honored to become a part of from South Africa to the United States of America and even around the world.

Prepare for Civil Rights to Platinum Rights which is where Dr. King was heading before he was cut down. Are there modern day leaders ready to accept the mantel, you bet there are? And you may have never heard of these unsung heroes who day after day plan and prepare to make the world a better place. If you have followed me for any length of time or check out my reporting on CNN IReport you have seen the name, International Ambassador Oscar J. Webb. A Mentor and Platinum Rights Leader. Stay tuned as the Economic Recovery sought by America will be found in Africa. But how will that affect you. It won't if you don't know or ignore it. Don't look for a big hoopla in mainstream media as they have largely ignored the most important Public Policy Statement ever released from the Global Body of Nations to benefit people of African Descent. Yes UN Resolution 64/169 proclaiming 2011 The International Year for People of African Descent. It suggests that because of Slavery the world owes us the opportunity to reconnect to our Heritage Socially, Culturally and Economically.

Does that mean you can expect a Reparations Check in the mail? Well excuse me but Hell NO! And while the perpetrators of Slavery has been blamed on the White Man it’s time to get past that as many Black people showed them the way to enslave us.

This is the 300th Year of the Willie Lynch Letter which taught enslavement for that period until today. Well here is some great news for people of African Descent.

YOU ARE FREE, FREE FROM THE WILLIE LYNCH CURES AND FREEE FROM PHSYICAL SLAVERY.

NOW WHAT? STAY TUNED TO SEE THE ACTION ITEMS RELATED TO UN RESOLUTION 64/169 AND 2011 SONGS FOR AFRICA a celebration to be coordinated with both Martin Luther King's Holiday and Nelson Mandela’s Freedom Day each year from now on.

With 1.1 Trillion dollars in buying power and 54 African Nations and the resources of the Continent, could it be that we are not broke busted and disgusted. Rather rich beyond measure. Think about it and then follow WCN on Twitter, Facebook and the several blogs we produce as we highlight Jobs in Africa to build America. And when you visit the Lorraine Motel on vacation to see our past plan to go home at least once in your lifetime.

Visit our Past but Chart out your Future:

Mayor Kasim Reed Announces Launch of ‘Invest Atlanta’ at 2012 State of City Address

Responding to changing economic dynamics and untapped business opportunities, the City of Atlanta today launched “Invest Atlanta,” a modernized version of the city’s economic development agency formerly known as the Atlanta Development Authority, Mayor Kasim Reed said.

Mayor Reed unveiled Invest Atlanta during his annual State of the City business breakfast address before more than 900 business and community leaders at the Georgia World Congress Center. During his speech, Reed stressed the necessity for a focus on economic development and job creation through 2012.

"I have made economic development one of my Administration's top priorities, and this change represents an effort to modernize our approach to economic growth," said Mayor Reed, who also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Invest Atlanta. "We must get our economy moving again because our unemployment level is too high and families are hurting. Focusing on business creation, attraction, retention and expansion not only creates jobs but also brings in new tax revenues for the city."

Engage Teens: When Brands Become Friends: The 4th Evolution Of The Online Friendship Concept 03/29/2012

When Brands Become Friends: The 4th Evolution Of The Online Friendship Concept - 03/29/2012...Until not so long ago, friendships were simple: to follow the most common universal definition, friendship is a relationship between two humans that is based upon mutual empathy, understanding, trust and have the other person best interests at heart.

In the early 2000s, with the rise of social networks such as MySpace or Friendster, we became aware of several new types of friendships, the kind that didn't settle with all the "classic" definitions of the term and, in a way, changed the very concept of online friendship: During the early years of social networking, we first encountered "collectors," people that are "friending" other people not because they care for their interests nor share mutual trust (most of the time the "friends" don't know each other at all), but only to add more friends to their list and accumulate popularity on the social network.

Social TV Grows 91% From a Year Ago; Animated Shows like American Dad Hot on Facebook - 03/19/2012...

February was a big month for social TV chatter, driven by events like the Oscars, the Super Bowl and the Grammys. In addition, the amount of conversations and check-ins around TV shows has grown 91% year over year, said social TV tracking service Trendrr.tv in a recently released white paper.

The last year has seen a slew of programmers from Discovery to Showtime release new and additional social TV apps to promote synchronous viewing, some of which include online video. Plus, there’s been ample attention by media agencies to startups that can track and quantify social buzz around shows and commercials. Such insight can help marketers better understand the true level of engagement and passions fans have in a particular show.

Or being with friends, at that one special spot

*It was late August and at the midpoint of the too-long pre-season the NFL is looking to eliminate in the next collective bargaining agreement. The Washington Redskins were at the New Meadlowlands for the third of four exhibition games. The Skins pulled out a 16-11 victory over the New York Jets that night. Toward the end of the game a group of youngsters went down to the railing behind the Washington bench. Some were heckling the visitors. Others were just seeking their heros’ attention. Dan Salomon is an 11-year old Jets fan. He was respectfully calling out to defensive end Andre Carter. Even though the game was still going on, Carter’s day was done. So he politely posed with the lad for photos. Dan proclaimed, “I can’t believe he came over and took a picture with me!” But it got better for the Central Jersey sports fanatic..

One-on-One with Bill Gates: ‘Why Aren’t There Protests Every Day?'

Hi-Tech Revolution Has Given Inner-City Schools Equal Access. Now, Microsoft Billionaire says a Revolution of a Different Kind is Needed to Give Students a Fighting Chance

By Kevin ChappellTo Bill Gates, the digital divide is so yesterday, and unfortunately, so is the Civil Rights Movement.

The American icon who made billions revolutionizing the personal computer, says that price drops in technology have meant people of all races and at virtually every point of the socioeconomic spectrum, have access to the Internet and the equipment needed to tap into it.

So 10 years after starting the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation—and deciding to put billions into improving education in America—he knows that access to technology is no longer the issue. How we use that technology in the classroom, and whom we hire to teach are.

America’s public school system, particularly in the inner city where dropout rates top 50 percent in some cases, is failing at both.

“That’s when you say, ‘Oh, my goodness! … This is a stark situation,’” says Gates of learning that some schools were little more than dropout factories, even though low-cost technology was supposed to be the great equalizer.

In fact, once Gates got over the shock at the continued disparity in the education system, he says he got angry. Now, he struggles to figure out why Blacks, particularly in inner cities, aren’t also mad as hell and ready to pound the pavement for change. “Why isn’t there outrage, absolute outrage over this issue? Why aren’t there protests every day? I don’t understand,” he says. “Why wouldn’t this activate people the way that it did during the Civil Rights Movement?”
