The trouble with companies watching the world disrupt their business models is that it's hard for them to quit panicking long enough to raise their vision to reconceptualize how they can satisfy the market's core needs. (I'm not suggesting that this is EASY, btw, just necessary.) Think Kodak.  People don't want a better magazine any more than they wanted better film cameras.  www.audiencepsych.com

Aleszu Bajak:  'The story is the foundation to interactive storytelling. There are strict rules to the reporting and news gathering for the story. Distribution, the launch and the publicity that follows, has its own strict set of rules, too. What’s flexible, says [Konstantinos Antonopoulos, senior interactive designer], is the narrative: “This is a space to infuse technology, use good visuals, and transform the story into an experience.”'

If journalists want to raise real awareness of what is going on in the world, they can´t just offer the audience facts and images.  They also have to give possibilities to feel the reality. Nonny de la Peña´s Project Syria is a great example of it.

The Digital Rocking Chair's insight:

Frank Rose:  "When I first arrived in New York, some time back in the last century, I gazed in awe and fascination at subway riders reading The New York Times. Thanks to a precise and universally adopted method of folding the paper (had it been taught in schools?), they could read it and even turn its pages without thrusting them in anyone else's face. The trick? Folding those big, inky broadsheets into neat little rectangles—roughly the same size, in fact, as an iPad." ...

Moving forward - there's every reason to adapt and adopt. Like vinyl records and old photographic film, some old media methods will become a collectors (small audience) market, leaving mainstream media in the new delivery vehicles of our day today, and tomorrow's (there's the trick, working out what THEY will be!).
