Angry Birds: Casual Gaming to Transmedia Franchise? | Transmedia: Storytelling for the Digital Age | Scoop.it
To analyze the potential of Angry Birds, I’m going to first look at what Rovio (by design or happenstance) did right, and then consider what it needs to do in order to create a franchise that can be extended and sustained beyond the core game...

[Why do some ideas take-off?  Is it just luck?  This article answers some of those questions in relation to the success of Angry Birds.]

[This post provides an excellent look at the creative process behind a transmedia property.  "The Killing Moon" is also discussed with reference to the development of transmedia and the current economic climate.  Utimately, this post shows just how hard it can be to get a transmedia property "off-the-ground".]

On Transmedia and Education: A Conversation With Robot Heart Stories' Jen Begeal and Inanimate Alice's Laura Fleming (Part One) | Transmedia: Storytelling for the Digital Age | Scoop.it

Molly Westmoreland's curator insight, October 2, 2014 1:09 PM

Robot Heart Stories: Experimental learning project that challenges two underprivileged classrooms a country apart to help a "lost robot" home.  The experiment connects technology, language skills, different cultures, and basically all subjects (math, reading, science, writing) in a fun game that is placing learning directly into the hands of all students.

Inanimate Alice: Interactive episodes that combine text, sound, and images to tell the story of a young girl named Alice.

Points out transmedia has long been property of commercial franchises aimed at young people, but questions the time lapse that occurs before society explored the implications of transmedia for education

Simple, Elegant Genius: The BBC's Transmedia Sherlock - Part 1

Simple, Elegant Genius: The BBC's Transmedia Sherlock - Part 1 | Transmedia: Storytelling for the Digital Age | Scoop.it
What I really like about the BBC’s approach to creating transmedia content for Sherlock was that the show’s producers kept everything super simple and everything they created was worked back into the show as important story points.

This is an excellent case study in the use of transmedia storytelling techniques.  The article contains lots of specific examples and I'm already looking forward to Part 2.

Some transmedia properties are entirely top-down, deploying fairly conventional models of authorship, despite their deployment across multiple media platforms. Others include strong elements of participatory culture. How central is youth participation in the production and circulation of media to your visions for transmedia education?
