Apps Are Media: Chasing Salander Expands The Dragon Tattoo Story | Transmedia: Storytelling for the Digital Age | Scoop.it
When books get turned into movies, there’s usually little added to the original story. But with interactive apps, the narrative doesn’t have to be dumbed down or retold. Instead it can be explored from a different angle to expand the audience’s understanding of a fictional world.

Why Cinema Audiences Are So Furious About The Devil Inside

Why Cinema Audiences Are So Furious About The Devil Inside | Transmedia: Storytelling for the Digital Age | Scoop.it

Despite it winner at Friday’s box office with almost $17 million, and being on track to close out the weekend in the number one position, the found-footage horror film The Devil Inside is leaving audiences up in arms...

Fighting Mongooses's curator insight, November 20, 2013 2:29 PM

An interesting look at how multi-platform storytelling can fail, this entry looks at the controversial film "The Devil Inside" which made millions in the box office, but left much of its audience upset or disappointed. *SPOILER ALERT*

Apparently the end of the film cuts off abruptly and asks audiences to then go to a webpage to find out more. There they are "treated" with fake newpaper articles, photos, and vidoe clips. None of them offer any resolution to the story.

I can understand why everyone would be upset, as this ending was outside the realm of what they were expecting, and required them to do additional work to see the "ending". For many people, this would require that they get in their car, drive home, and boot up the computer, which is a lot of work for today's society. Even then, it wasn't (in my opinion) worth the payoff since there is still no resolution, leaving audiences upset and irritated. -HB
