"I" Is For Innovation: Sesame Street's Secrets For Staying Relevant | Transmedia: Storytelling for the Digital Age | Scoop.it
The Digital Rocking Chair's insight:

Elizabeth Segran:  "For generations of viewers, Sesame Street is a portal to a simpler, more innocent time in their lives. This creates something of a quandary for the show’s producers: how do you keep evolving a show so it doesn’t get stale without offending its devoted fans?"

David Collet's curator insight, September 17, 7:19 PM

This one I have to rescoop. I am too old to have benefited from Sesame Street but that doesn't my life was not affected by it. This is technology used at its best and most effective. The message delivered has always been universal. And it has remained true to its original format. There is no mention of the creator of the series in this piece and I think that is a mistake. Sesame Street was done by a creative genius on a par with Steve Jobs.

There are lessons in this success for young entrepreneurs if only you look.

The web series is dying – and Netflix and Amazon Prime are responsible

The web series is dying – and Netflix and Amazon Prime are responsible | Transmedia: Storytelling for the Digital Age | Scoop.it
The Digital Rocking Chair's insight:

"James Rawson: The fledgling format, which seemed full of potential only a year ago, is in decline, because it cannot compete with the big guns of online television"

Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's curator insight, September 14, 4:18 AM

As brand new shows found audiences online, established web series had already proved the viability of the medium as a career launchpad: Broad City, a New York-based comedy about best friends Ilana and Abbi, was picked up by Comedy Central; Children’s Hospital, a kind of nightmarish Scrubs, is now shown on Adult Swim; and Burning Love, a Ben Stiller spoof of The Bachelor, won an Emmy. They all began as online series, in the wild west web, where anything goes.

Dr. Pamela Rutledge's curator insight, September 14, 5:27 PM

The emergence of Netflix & Amazon Prime over web series argues that the value proposition for consumers is on control first--the  'delivery on demand' rather than the raw, quirkiness of indy productions.  Now the face-off moves to content.  But can high budget productions keep up with demand for content?  Raises the bar for web series, certainly, and eliminates the novelty effect for early adopters, but good content is good content.  I see adaptation not demise.

David Collet's curator insight, August 30, 7:39 PM

I have too many opinions on this subject but I don't wish ti bore anyone. Nor do I wish to detract from the article. It is a New York Times opinion piece and you may have to register to read the entire article but I think you will find it worthwhile.

If you have children just starting on-line (for me grandchildren) there is usefull advice about dealing with cyber bullying.

But the piece is primarily targetted at an adult audience. Discussion on-line is a usefull way to expand your horizons but it comes with dangers that you don't experience in face to face exchanges.

I sm pretty thick skinned an sufficiently arrogant that I mostly ignore negative comments. But this piece offered some advice that will cause me to mend my ways a bit.
