Jim Stewartson: "Friends, it’s time to get serious. The ongoing debate between (intelligent, well-meaning) people about what “transmedia” means and even whether defining the word matters at all, is killing our common cause."
Andrea Phillips: "It's become fashionable to hate the word 'transmedia' in some circles. The T-word has been very good to me. It's netted me any number of speaking engagements and website hits and sold me a book, among other things, so I feel a certain loyalty to it. I don't think I'd be enjoying the same degree of professional success if I hadn't very consciously embraced That Word back in 2010 or so."
Jen Begeal: "Transmedia Storytelling: What's Now, What's Next and How to Do it" ...
Andrea Mulle: "Leveraging the individual strengths of multiple storytelling platforms, transmedia builds a storyworld meant to engage and involve its audience and delivers an informative, entertaining experience" ...
Lucas J.W. Johnson: "Last week at Transmedia Vancouver, I presented an Introduction to Transmedia class. I wanted to cover a lot of the overview and basics of transmedia storytelling for those members new to transmedia and provide them with resources, so that in the future, our conversations can really move forward, into the nuts and bolts, into a space where we can all learn from each other."
Chaunton: "We like [...] transmedia for several reasons. It's new, it's frequently innovative, it's story-driven, and it’s broad, and un-standardized enough that it's a bit of a Wild West frontier" ...
Sebastian Müller: "I usually write my blog posts in german, but this time it just seemed unfair because I am referring to a discussion, that took place in the english speaking part of the internet"...
DRC: As with Simon Staffan's Transmedia – does anyone care?, this follows on from Brian Clark's facebook post Transmedia is a Lie.
Simon Staffans: "I’ve had a blog post sitting on my computer, half-written, for quite some time. The essence of the post was that there are only about 200 people around the world that actually care if your project is a ”true transmedia project” or not, the 6.999.999.800 others either don’t care or will never hear of your stuff."
Lucas J.W. Johnson muses on the definition of Transmedia: "But to me what makes transmedia exciting is the community, this group of people from around the world sharing ideas about awesome ways to tell stories, and awesome ways for an audience to experience stories." [This is a short read but a recommended one ... Lucas' thoughts on transmedia 'strike a chord'.]
"Transmedia is a buzzword to many. For others, it’s a word that promises gateways into new experiences. For yet others, it’s a term that is filled with challenges and possibilities on a storytelling and creative level. It all comes down to one simple question: what do you want transmedia to do for you?"
"A series of technological, economic, and consumer trends are driving the development of transmedia projects as a new form of marketing, entertaining, and educating" ...
Transmedia storyteller and brand director Sparrow Hall defines transmedia storytelling, illustrating how a narrative can travel across multiple mediums, including books, ebooks, film, music and social networking sites.
"Personally I feel the studies of the art of composing and creating for a number of instruments bear a lot of resemblance, at the very least on a philosophical level, to the work of a transmedia producer, creator and storyteller"...

Brooke Thompson: "It’s that time of year again… the time when we shake our collective heads and try to have some magical moment where we suddenly all understand what transmedia means. Scratch that. We all understand what transmedia means just fine. This is the time of year when we try to agree on what it means… and, in so doing, prove that the word has meaning and that we understand it more than they do."
The word "transmedia" was hardly to be heard at MIPTV. Does this mean it's dead, or rather fully integrated in TV production?
Mike Jones: "In any discussion and professional practice of ‘new media’ there is a swag of terminology that gets kicked around; cross-media, multi-platform & transmedia, interactive and pervasive media, emergent, non-linear and participatory storytelling, etc etc…"
Noah J Nelson: "I talk a lot about transmedia here at Turnstyle, and will be talking about it even more this week when I head to StoryWorld. With that in mind, I wanted to create a little primer on the topic, but that felt altogether too academic."
Mélanie Bourdaa: "This article aims to scrutinize the phenomenon of transmedia storytelling in order to explain the mechanisms and the challenges for the cultural industries, in particular film and television" ....
Via siobhan-o-flynn
Mélanie Bourdaa: "In Jenkins’ view, five logics are contributing to the emergence of transmedia and the phenomenon of increased fan participation (‘fandom’):"
- The logic of entertainment
- The logic of social connection
- The logic of experts
- The logic of immersion
- The logic of identification
Brian Clark: "A year ago, I wrote about how we needed to reclaim the phrase "transmedia storytelling" as a community from the plague of buzzworditis that was surrounding it. Sadly, that effort failed"...
Christy Dena: "Transmedia doesn’t mean what you think it does."
In this thought provoking article, Christy Dena, argues that transmedia "represents a change in the way people create". She wonders if the thing holding transmedia back is creatives themselves ... "whether creatives are genuinely interested in more than one artform." It's a great read.
Gamasutra's Leigh Alexander takes a look at how film and other media are doing at leveraging brands into the world of games, finding slow progress toward that popular transmedia vision. [Then continue the discussion with Simon Staffans over @ http://bit.ly/zdyjHS where he states "Transmedia is not ”there” yet, wherever we envisage ”there” to be. We have experimental projects, we have big-budget marketing campaigns, we have art projects, we have crowdfunded projects and any mix between these. Very few of these will have a significant impact on other transmedia projects, as all new projects need to be handled from the ground up as unique challenges."]
