'Gentleman's Guide,' McDonald have magic touch at Tony Awards

'Gentleman's Guide,' McDonald have magic touch at Tony Awards | Transmedia Storytelling for Business | Scoop.it
Broadway's newest darling is a killer of a musical comedy. "A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder," the tuneful tale of a dastardly charmer clearing his path to a fortune, was proclaimed the winner of four Tony Awards, including best musical. "The little engine that could, did," summed up producer Joey Parnes. While "Gentleman" was declared top of the musical class, jumping to the head of the line of Broadway's best Sunday night was Audra McDonald, who made Tonys history by becoming the first performer to win Tonys in all four acting categories. The Divine Ms. D won her sixth award, this time as best actress in a play, and found new ways to impress as Billie Holiday in "Lady Day at the Emerson Bar & Grill." She topped a category that included two-time Tony winner and CMU alum Cherry Jones

Popular television shows like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, The Good Wife, Dallas, and others do a great job of using transmedia to turn viewers into disciples and also attract new viewers.

Max Follmer "[...] with rapidly increasing competition for viewers, growing smartphone and tablet penetration, and the emergence of new platforms, marketing and creative teams are increasingly playing an important role in developing “storyworlds,” experiences that bridge the gap between marketing and content and lay out the mythology, characters, setting, backstories, and events that drive a show."

Poll: Should teachers be allowed to interact with students on social media?
Debbie Elicksen 's insight:

An interesting discussion. Teachers can use social media to engage a class, post assignments for peer review, etc, such as a Facebook page that they can keep private within the class.

We have clients and our bosses in our Facebook, Twitter, and other sites. Is it any different for teachers and students? Maybe that is the best way to keep the relationship honest. If there was a creep factor, that would show its face in a hurry.

Andrew Raimist's curator insight, March 1, 2014 1:06 AM

Kurt Vonnegut's rejected anthropology thesis proposed that the shapes of a culture's stories was at least as important as the shapes of their pots and spearheads.

I've been interested about the potential relationship of literary form to visual form, how we understand them logically, intellectually and emotively. How could a drawing, painting or work of architecture express the ideas contained in a work of literature through the use of form?

You can see Vonnegut discuss his ideas on the shapes of stories in this clip on YouTube:

Writing is about communication. It connects on two levels: the basic and the evocative.

Music has long been a form of expression. For years, we've recognized artists like Bob Dylan to be more than a singer/songwriter. He's a poet. Time has evolved to include some rappers in that poetry category. It's not always about the gang banging culture or T and A slapping the camera in the music videos.

I'm sure G+ will continue evolve, but I don't see them getting rid of it completely anytime soon. And interesting read though about what the future of the product might be.

Stephen Dale's curator insight, May 1, 2014 1:56 PM

I believe the accepted wisdom is not that Google+ is being killed off, but a desire to position it more as an integrated platform (e.g. embracing Android and desktop products) and less as a social network. I anticipate that we'll see a less aggressive push to have a Google+ account if you want to use any Google product (YouTube being the most insidious), and (hopefully) some decoupling of Gmail that would enable me to ensure my Google+ activity isn't a mashup of personal and business interests.

Business Storytelling: How a Blog Can Help | Transmedia Storytelling for Business | Scoop.it

The best way I think businesses can tell their story is through a company blog. People often ask me why they should start a business blog. How exactly do they make sales through a blog? Well, if done right, a blog can bring in much more business than your traditional newspaper ad or other online paid advertising.

Debbie Elicksen 's insight:

Agree. Blogging will net you a better ROI than any paid advertising if you follow the lead of the people who are doing it successfully.
