LucaVanin - It can have the same connotation of untruth in the west; just depends on context (and who's paying!) In Entertainment, of course, no one worries about superficial truth. Even (especially?) in Reality TV. What matters is the universal truth that stories can deliver. That is the real litmus test of truth.

Here Are the 5 Things That Make a Good Transmedia Project

Here Are the 5 Things That Make a Good Transmedia Project | Transmedia Seattle | Scoop.it

"Now that the National Film Board of Canada is not the only big player in the game of transmedia storytelling (outside of the branding world, of course), the Tribeca Film Institute, Mozilla and more are eager to put their money and support behind transmedia storytelling"

Via The Digital Rocking Chair
Brad Tollefson's insight:
The work leverages the strengths of each medium it uses.

If you’re just putting video on the web, that’s not very exciting. The web is there to foster dialog, participation, it’s not television or a movie theater. If you’re going to use a mobile phone as one of your storytelling platforms, why not emphasize the user’s intimacy with the device. Smart phones have become intensely personal items.

In short, transmedia creators and producers would do well not to simply scatter their stories across different media. They have to carefully consider the features and strengths of the platform, and design the expression of that aspect of the narrative to take best advantage of them.

It’s also important for creators to place within each expression of the story a marker of some sort that will lead the audience to the next medium. This can be done subtly, within the context of the story, but some aspect of the interface will also need to more overtly tell us how to get to the rest of the presentation. Fail to do that well, and you’re audience (or as I prefer to call them, participants) won’t be able to enjoy the complete work...

In the comments is a mention of this:

I absolutely LOVE how storytelling is used in this organization as a connective learning tool. As a part of the idea of 'education' shifting away from simple knowledge acquisition there is a significant power in story.  It is an opportunity for learning about and from one another.  I feel we have lost this and I welcome it back.

Why Hollywood Needs More Experience Designers

Why Hollywood Needs More Experience Designers | Transmedia Seattle | Scoop.it
It’s 2013, and Second Screen is all around us, touted as the Next Big Thing.
Brad Tollefson's insight:

"My prediction is that soon, a mainstream property is going to get it right in a game-changing way. A story is going to emerge that actually requires the transmedia content, and their audience is going to get used to having the story that way. Once that happens, programming will evolve, and fast.

At that point, those who aren’t working with Experience Designers to utilize these new technologies may find themselves like those who continued to make buggy whips while the Model T Fords were rolling off the assembly lines: Left in the dust."... next article I need to write- What Experience Designers could learn from James Schramko...

Connecting - Trends in UI, Interaction, & Experience Design. thanks Faisal!

'The 18 minute "Connecting" documentary is an exploration of the future of Interaction Design and User Experience from some of the industry's thought leaders.  As the role of software is catapulting forward, Interaction Design is seen to be not only increasing in importance dramatically, but also expected to play a leading role in shaping the coming "Internet of things." Ultimately, when the digital and physical worlds become one, humans along with technology are potentially on the path to becoming a "super organism" capable of influencing and enabling a broad spectrum of new behaviors in the world.'

It seems almost too self-evident to be worth saying, but the passage of time is central to photography.

Via Mario Pires, ABroaderView
Brad Tollefson's insight:

The thing that I increasingly believe makes the history of photography interesting is that it is really a history of the relentless pursuit of speed. One might imagine that in a visual media each major innovation would be one of improving image quality (as has been the case in, for example, cinematography). But in photography each advance, from Daguerreotype to Polaroid, digital single lens reflex to the camera phone, has been first and foremost about increasing the medium’s pace, often indeed at the expense of image quality.
