The Transmedia Hierarchy of Needs | PERSONALIZE MEDIA

The Transmedia Hierarchy of Needs | PERSONALIZE MEDIA | Transmedia Landscapes | Scoop.it
This post therefore looks briefly at a core aspect of transmedia or experience design that is oft left out of the equation, the user need and how we can map out and create transmedia to meet those needs.

Ask yourself…

1. Does your work go beyond short term titillation (think 30 second ad spots, short films, virals or stunt marketing campaigns in shopping malls) and encourage repeat visits over many months?

2. Does it contain intimate, social and group building elements?

3. Is it a trusted, familiar environment to use and take part in?

4. Does it actually work, not fall over, most of the time?

5. Does it encourage user creativity, stimulate user ethics or open their minds to other worlds

6. Will they be rewarded through the respect of others?

Anodyne Pirate Bay Promo Post-mortem.

Anodyne Pirate Bay Promo Post-mortem. | Transmedia Landscapes | Scoop.it

Time to answer the question: “Was that Pirate Bay Promo useful at all?"

The promo was a big picture of Anodyne on thepiratebay.se ‘s front page linking to http://www.anodynegame.com/tpb.html .

So was it useful? Or did no one pay for it and now we have devalued our game completely?

First, it cost $7 to do the promo, all $7 of which were for paying our hosting provider for bandwidth, Nearlyfreespeech.net. There were no other costs.

Justin Nalepa's insight:

A look at how two Indie Game developers used The Pirate Bay as a means of marketing their game. Also includes great statistics and data on what they did and how it changed their sales.

Skrillex Quest: a Browser Game Homage to Zelda, 8-Bit, and Skrillex | TransChordian

Skrillex Quest: a Browser Game Homage to Zelda, 8-Bit, and Skrillex | TransChordian | Transmedia Landscapes | Scoop.it

From indie rock to hip hop to electronic music, browser-based games are becoming increasingly common extensions for musicians. The element of interactivity, inherently missing in traditionally distributed music, is a major benefit. These games offer the ability to build an actual world for fans to explore that is both easily distributable and accessible.

The most recent and very high quality venture into this realm is Skrillex Quest, an homage to The Legend of Zelda series and the Nintendo Entertainment System set to the music and themes of Skrillex’s work.
