Study: What kids think of Oculus Rift and the new VR

Study: What kids think of Oculus Rift and the new VR | Transmedia and Tech Junior | Scoop.it
Over the past few months, there has been a lot of movement in the virtual reality space. In March of this year, Facebook acquired Oculus VR for US$2 billion. Sony and Samsung have both expressed their intent to enter the virtual reality market with VR headsets. Even restaurants are getting in on the act - Chuck E. Cheese announced earlier this year that it would bring virtual reality games to its play areas. It's only a matter of time until the technology trickles further down into the kids space. And as a new study from kids digital entertainment specialist Dubit and researcher KZero suggests, the demand is there.
Karen B Wehner's insight:

Kids embrace virtual reality, but expect it to be more than just a gaming headset. Tweens especially want new modes of creation and free play, riffing on real world experiences.

We have an early look at some of the interesting data coming out of a larger report on teacher attitudes around the use of games in the classroom. The numbers hint at wider use of games in the classroom and indicate teachers see the real benefit of games in helping low-performing students.
Karen B Wehner's insight:

Upshot: PC to tablet evolution still underway; lower-performing students still seen as primary beneficiaries of gaming in classrooms, except when it comes to the benefits collaboration is seen to convey to all learners.
