"When Jonah Berger was a graduate student at Stanford, in the early aughts, he would make a habit of reading page A2 of the Wall Street Journal, which included a list of the five most-read and the five most-shared articles of the day. “I’d go down to the library and surreptitiously cut out that page,” he recalls. “I noticed that what was read and what was shared was often different, and I wondered why that would be.” What was it about a piece of content—an article, a picture, a video—that took it from simply interesting to interesting and shareable? What pushes someone not only to read a story but to pass it on?"

Nice story about nice stories. Mentionning Aristotle (without further development). At the end: be angry or inspired, threatening or fragile. 

In some manner it also helps to understand how religions work. At least it puts in evidence the link between the both systems.

Narrative Patterns: the perils and possibilities of using story in organisations

Stories in organisations reveal patterns of culture, behaviour and understanding in a different and, frequently more effective way than interviews and questionnaire based approaches. Narrative techniques both reveal the patterns of an organisation and are in turn the means by which it can be patterned. Narrative is a powerful tool within organisations, but is not susceptible to the engineering approaches that have dominated management practice in the last few decades. Managers need to create an environment in which the patterns of narrative meaning and the patterning capability of narrative interventions are managed in the way a gardener manages a garden, not the way an engineer designs a machine.

I think we deceived ourselves into believing the importance of the why and what for questions. Education, in its truest forms, is all about being able to take learning and apply it to life in some meaningful way. Education and life are inseparable similar to the way teaching and learning are.

If you think by simply creating points, badges or another type of reward system will motivate workers, then you are going about gamification the wrong way, according to game expert Dr Jason Fox, who spoke at Gartner’s Business Intelligence Summit in Sydney this week.

* les + : matériaux vidéo intéressants, navigation assez claire, belle intégration html (je l'ai vu sur chrome...)

* les - : plutôt une collection d'extraits, pas de vraie problématisation ni d'esprit critique, peu de documents historiques en appuie, ne permet pas de mieux comprendre les causes et les conséquences historiques de la guerre, on peut vite se lasser à enchaîner les extraits, d'autant plus que l'on voit qu'ils sont nombreux

 

conclusion: plus une bibliothèque interactive qu'un documentaire

Whilst many people are aware of Bartle’s Player Types, they may not be aware that Richard Bartle himself is of the opinion they do not translate well to non MMO games or non game related systems – especially gamified systems. Quant au documentaire... L'été dernier j'ai longuement discuté avec un ami logisticien des camps de réfugiés... je n'ai jamais entendu d'histoires aussi violentes de ma vie. A côté le doc paraît très édulcoré. (en même temps je comprends, et ça dépend aussi des missions...)
