The first trailer has been released for "The Fifth Estate," the upcoming film about the early days of WikiLeaks.
Benedict Cumberbatch ("Star Trek Into Darkness," "Sherlock") stars as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, with Daniel Bruhl as Assange's former partner Daniel Domscheit-Berg. The cast also includes Laura Linney, Stanley Tucci, Anthony Mackie, David Thewlis and Dan Stevens.
"The Fifth Estate" is directed by Bill Condon ("Dreamgirls," "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" Parts 1 and 2), with a screenplay by Josh Singer ("The West Wing") based on "Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange at the World's Most Dangerous Website" by Domscheit-Berg and "WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange's War on Secrecy" by David Leigh and Luke Harding.
According to DreamWorks, the film "reveals the quest to expose the deceptions and corruptions of power that turned an Internet upstart into the 21st century's most fiercely debated organization."
WikiLeaks denounced the film following the trailer's release, posting the video to its Twitter account and writing, "Don't be fooled. It implies we gave Iran nukes and killed 2,000."
"Our comments are based on the script used during filming, not, as the director Bill Condon falsely states an old script (though we have them too)," the organization added.
"The Fifth Estate" arrives in theaters on Oct. 18.
